Advantages: Good selection Disadvantages: Not really representative as a "best of"
...Generally speaking I think "Best of/Hits" compilations of one band are a good idea, especially on CDs, as it allows both the poorer ones among us to renew our aged vinyl collection and 'newbies' to a band to get a good feel for them before leaping into the rest of their material.
However "Eternally Damned - The Very Best of The Damned" I find to be quite a misrepresentation of the bands' 25 year career and numerous albums (I have 11 but I'm sure there's more!). How all that can be summarised on one 20 track CD I can't fathom, and on this one it definitely hasn't been. True, there's a glut of 'Best of' albums for The Damned - "The Light at the End of the Tunnel" being currently the best one of the bunch.

...The Hives released their debut album in Sweden in 1997,but only acheived recognition through this compilation released on Alan McGee's Poptones label.'Your new favourite band' collects a selection of tracks from the albums 'Barely Legal' and 'Veni vidi vicious' as well as the 'a.k.a I-D-I-O-T' ep.There is also a b-side from the 'Hate to say I told you so' single.
The Hives are a five piece clearly influenced by 1970's rock and punk.There's more than a hint of Mick Jagger in the vocal, but the music mainly resembles Iggy and The Stooges,The Buzzcocks and even Sham 69.All five members of the band where identical black and white clothing and have names like Dr Matt Destruction and Chris Dangerous.So as you can guess they don't take themselves too seriously.
