Advantages: Music that's fun to listen to Disadvantages: The occasional naff lyric
.... The overall effect once the vocal has been added in reminds me of Fuzzbox’s “International Rescue”. It’s a bouncy, up tempo, totally enjoyable pop song that I just can’t get tired of.
How do you follow something like that? Well, with something like “Pull Shapes”. The intro is a little more laid back, with a 1960s feel that ends up with the song sounding like it could have been performed by many of the 1960s rock and roll girl groups. It’s an enjoyable rock and roll pop tune which, if you ever liked girl groups such as The Ronnettes, you’ll love.
There’s a very rock and roll guitar feel to the start of “Why Did You Stay”, which makes me think of something like “At the Hop”, although some of the vocal delivery is more akin to The Shangri-Las “The Leader of the Pack”. It’s more of a mid tempo song and loses some of the bounce of the earlier...

Advantages: All of the hits Disadvantages: No "Bad Boys"
...wouldn't sound out of place on Sade album. Not bad, just average.

7. Freedom
Another number and another track from Make It Big. A long organ intro (almost identical to George's Faith three year later) starts the song. It soon kicks into a fabulous 60's pastiche and could have been sung by someone like The Shangri-Las back in the day. You don't hear this track much these and it's true that absence makes the heart grow fonder because I love it.
Released: September 1984
Highest Chart Position: 1
Rating: 4/5
8. Edge Of Heaven
Sniff. Their last ever single. Another superb singalong chorus that features no decipherable words except:
na na na na na na
yeah yeah yeah
na na na na na na
yeah yeah yeah yea-eh-yeah
Good eh? It's an uptempo track as most of Wham's ouput...

Advantages: Brilliant sound, perfect pop songs, wonderful harmonies Disadvantages: some of the rhymes
...Imagine if you threw in all the classic girl groups into a blender. You would end up with my new favourite band, the Pipettes,. This all female, polka dot clad, indie pop trio consisting of Gwenno, Rosay, and Riot Becki have created a fantastic album full of catchy, sassy, fun, up beat three minute (and under) pop songs with the odd ballad thrown in for good measures.
Their formula for success is simple. The first thing you will need is a classic 1960s girl group. I would recommend someone with a pedigree such as the Shirelles, the Ronnettes or the Shangrilas. You need to take some of their best song such as “ Will You Still Love me Tomorrow” “Be my Baby” or “Leader of the Pack”. (All classics that truly last the test of time). You now need to extract the classic production involving intricate stings and brass...
