This is a great collection of all of Dr. Dre's best tracks. The group of records are not only the ones he appeared rapping on, but also the best ones he produced his unique G-Funk style for. Out of such a vast choice it must have been hard to narrow this choice down to just 12. I believe they could have had a second disc, as there was so much potential in all the records he produced over the year..
1. Nuthin' But A G Thang - Dr. Dre & Snoop Doggy Dogg
**Five Stars**
This is just as Snoop Doggy Dogg's "What's My Name" in that it is one of the ultimate tracks for the summer and makes you feel as if you are in California.
2. Gin And Juice - Snoop Doggy Dog & Daz
**Five Stars**
"With my mind on my money, and my money on my mind." You can't do a West Coast complilation without this one. This is what the West coast is all about, and you can't do anything you want to do without getting that money.
It doesn't matter how many times you play this one because i never gets boring so its good that it made it onto each 'Death Row' Greatest hits album.
3. Afro
Puffs - Lady Of Rage & Snoop Doggy Dogg
**Four Stars**
Classic track from a long-lost place in the world when women could get angry and MC on some hard-hitting music. This shows how there was equally at one point in Hip Hop between the genders, as allegedly now females are explioted.
4. Natural Born Killaz - Dr. Dre & Ice Cube
**Four Stars**
It's good to see Cube and Dre without their beef, so this trip back to the past. This is strictly for hardcore gangsta rap fans, its to grimy for people that haven't gone through this life killing to survive. I'm not even claiming that is me but its hard to get into the music that is as rough as this tune.
5. Murder Was The Case - Snoop Doggy Dogg
**Four Stars**
This is a highly emotive tale as Snoop explains a near encounter of death after being shot. Snoop made up so many small details of this ficticious event that it made it seem although it actually happened.
The beat is very hypnotic as if he is weaving in and out of consciousness. The effect created is extremely effective and so it was a nice inclusion to this compilation as it shows shows Dre takes close attention to detail.
6. Lil' Ghetto Boy - Dr. Dre & Snoop Doggy Dogg/Dat Nigga Daz
**Four Stars**
Gets me into a "Boy N The Hood" mood, giving a look into life in the ghetto of California. It takes you from the streets to the prisons and the affect on this to their families. A deeply depressing track heavily contrasting some of the other material on the LP.
7. Let Me Ride - Dr. Dre & Snoop Doggy Dogg
**Five Stars**
Another of the great collaborations between Dre and Snoop, one of the more underrated tracks but obviously Death Row didn't feel this way. You cannot skip this track it is up there with "Who Am I" as one of the best West Coast tunes in my opinion.
8. California Love - 2Pac & Dr. Dre
**Five Stars**
Everyone knows this one, its pure West Coast, no paying around, its just hardcore 2Pac in his prime alongside Dre, both showing their love for California in the best way they know how.
9. Fuck Wit Dre Day - Dr. Dre & Snoop Doggy Dogg/RBX/Jewel
**Five Stars**
I don't think he had to, but in this one Dre tell the world how hard he is after Eazy dissed him. This is a prime example of Dre working fast to produce a record back after Eazy's "Real MFin' Gz" to counter and not loose any face on the lyrical front.
This is an old school Snoop Doggy Dogg track which had Dre produced the beat for. It is a pretty typical exmple of Dre's style in the early ninties, Snoop isn't much different from what he was like back then in his early his either.
There is a lot to like about this track from the great hook to the artsit rapping on the beat.
11. Stranded On Death Row - Bushwick Bill & Kurupt/RBX/Lady Of Rage/Snoop Doggy Dogg
**Two Stars**
This is, judging by the title, one playing on the name of their record label of 'Death Row' to produce a track about what life is like for those who know that the onlymajor event which will happen in their life is their inevitable death, however this is not the case. This is about all of the artist on the label giving an introduction to us about what they are all about.
It isn't really one which I enjoyed because there isn't much need in having it at all because we get to know the artist by listening to their music, we don't need to be told.
12. Nuthin' But A G Thang - Dr. Dre & Snoop Doggy Dogg
**Five Stars**
This is just as Snoop Doggy Dogg's "What's My Name" in that it is one of the ultimate tracks for the summer and makes you feel as if you are in California.
This was a very good compilation of Dre's better works from his early rap days. All of his best production work and rap classics are featured here including his collaborations with many West Coast artists of the likes of Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube and 2Pac.
This albums was released in 2005 and so I feel that they could have done another discs worth of tracks, the second should be all of his newer ones as he has done a lot since when most of these were recorded. "Still D.R.E.", "Forgot About Dre" and "The Next Episode" would be my first coice to be included had this gone on to include a further CD. Some N.W.A. would not go without compliment either it they did get chosen to be included as well.
