Advantages: compelling listening for Sunday afternoons, lazy barbeques, and rides back from the beach
Disadvantages: bizarre warble of a voice that may be a deal-breaker for some

...A quick note before the review: I am not interested in people leaving a comment telling me how they want this review to look. I am writing a review of my own oppinion, and do not want to write a long winded, self obsessed, hard to read thesis on how the CD lacks spunk and the socio-political reprocussions it may or may not have. This is a brief overview of an album, or artist, that you may not have heard before, yet have a passing interest in. Enjoy... I don't really remember how I came accross Xavier Rudd; his CD just seemed to arrive in my hi-fi one lazy sunday afternoon last summer. Think Jack Johnson or John Mayer meets a little psychedelic late-era Marley or T-Rex era Bolan. (Indeed Rudd covers "No Woman No Cry". and even does the song justice!) Ray McVay and the Glenn Miller Orchestra also have a web site that tells you where they are playing and where you can see them, this website is very helpful as you can also place requests for certain songs should you be going to one of their many concerts or if you want a dedication at the concert. Ray McVay loves to see the guests dance in the isles. The concert is well preformed, with great information about Glenn Miller and how the music came about. This Orchestra plays for around about an hour and a half, with a 30 minute break in the middle. The singers and the musicians are some of the best around and this is noticeable with they way that they play their instruments. All the musicians wear American Second World War uniforms. ...-disc box set is part of the complete set of operas recorded by the D’Oyly Carte Opera Company and released by DECCA. John Reed gives a creditable account of the grizzled King Gama – you can almost hear him leer in that ‘celebrated sneer’. The other soloists are in good voice and the orchestra is in its usual sparkling form. The second CD is completed with a performance of the Pineapple Poll ballet suite. This is a pot pourri of snatches of tunes taken from the operas and put together into a short (45 minute) dance story in three scenes. Mackerras notes that it was not unusual for Sullivan to recycle motifs himself. The whole work is a good ‘music quiz’ for Savoyards and the insert booklet identifies the individual sources for when you get stuck.
