Best Wombles Album So Far, The - Wombles (The)

Advantages: Much more polished and good quality tracks, still with some explosive moments
Disadvantages: Threatens to lose its way near the end

...by Idlewild, titled 100 Broken Windows moved then up into a broader view with many people enjoying the sound. This album follows up the progress made with eleven consistently good tracks including several notable singles as stand out tracks and a fantastic finish. Idlewild, for those that have not heard of them are a Scottish four piece indie/rock outfit. This album sees them develop further away from punk rock beginnings to a more tuneful and controlling rock sound that has a far greater depth and quality now added to the songs. The music is very radio and listener friendly with well constructed and yet simple songs with a good mix of guitars and drums on the louder numbers to strings and acoustic moments on others. Lead singer Roddy Womble carries the band with a distinctive tone to his voice, while the lyrics also remain simple but touching. 1... Read review

Advantages: Pieces of perfect 70s pop
Disadvantages: Some less-than-great songs, and some of them sound dated

...Together with "Abba gold", this album gives you all the Abba you will need. All the hits, and all the other songs you know, even if they weren't hits. However, taken on its own, "Abba - More gold" is undeniably a second-best Abba 'greatest hits' collection. It is just nowhere near as good as Abba Gold. There are certainly some great songs on this collection, but the hits here are mainly from either the beginning of their career (Ring Ring and I do, I do, I do, I do, I do) or the towards the end (Summernight City, Angel Eyes, Under attack) - the lesser hits, we can safely say. Personally, I'm a fan of early Abba. I absolutely love "Ring Ring", and I think "I do, I do, I do, I do, I do" is probably my favourite of all their songs. Disadvantages: sometimes sing in an old language not many people can speak

...dismiss her as new age lift music if you like. see if i care. i first got into enya after seeing her play orinocco flow on top of the pops. she sat behind a big piano. did you know orrincco flow wasn't about a wombles menstrual problems? if not don't worry, sometimes she sings in Gaelic, and that means i don't understand what she is going on about either, but music is universal, and hers is one of the most beautiful types of music in the world. this best of cd is a good grounding in her work. the new CD isn't very long anyway. in conclusion, a classic...
