Album Notes: This 18-track anthology contains the entirety of the Creatures' first two releases, 1981's WILD THINGS double-45 package and 1983's FEAST, plus three bonus tracks by this percussion-heavy duo of Siouxsie Sioux and her drummer/husband Budgie, recorded during breaks between Siouxsie and the Banshees releases.

Advantages: Disadvantages:
...The Creatures are a side project of Siouxsie Sioux and husband Budgie, and "A Bestiary Of" is a compilation of their work throughout the eighties while The Banshees where still together. "A Bestiary Of" is far better than The Creatures recent album, the still very good "Anima Animus", and is a bombardment of percussion. Raw is the best word to describe the work and although recorded over a number of years the style of the tracks is fairly consistent and also, with the exception of a terrible cover of "Wild Thing", consistently good. Due to the fact the album pretty much utilises percussion instruments alone the style is a departure from the pair's work in The Banshees. The variety of Budgie's percussion coupled with Siouxsie's haunting and harsh vocals creates a distinctly tribal atmosphere if a desolate one. It's almost as if the album...

Advantages: A delight for the ears! Disadvantages: None!
...Another absolutely fascinating CD from this pioneer of modern ambient electronic ambient music. A music full of innovative electro rhythmic spacey textures and tribal explorations, using here ,some extraordinarily intricate sounding electronics. If you read the titles of the songs below , i think they give you a pretty good idea of what to expect here. A more recent offering this one and as usual , with each release, they just seem to get progressively better. A gem indeed which i cannot recommend highly enough. ..., Profumo and De Gaulle).
What to my mind marks Flanders and Swann out most however is their animal songs. "The Hippo Song" (Mud, Mud, Glorious Mud) is the best known, but Flanders has a genius in getting inside what he imagines to be the mind of various animals. These range from the lovelorn "Warthog" to the whale with flu (Mopy Dick) to the hypochondriac amnesiac elephant to the sloth, convinced of his own genius who just lacks the time, or the Gnu "the g-nicest work of g-nature in the zoo". The Bestiary contains many of these songs, although being recorded in the studio it lacks some of the intimacy with the audience of the two live recordings on the other two discs.
All three discs give well over an hour of innocent, whimsical and funny entertainment, a welcome reminder of an England that has long since disappeared. Flanders and Swann...
