Advantages: good time party music Disadvantages: none
...Back in 1971 Van Morrisson was a commercial force to be reckoned with following the success of both Astral Weeks and Moondance. He followed it up with this excellent album building on the success of Moondance but adding more horns and feeling to produce his unique vision of celtic soul music.
He manages to blend US Soul (Domino) rock'n'roll (Give me a kiss) and folk music to produce a goodtime album par excellance.
Van Morrisson's voice is excellent swooping to the highs and lows with an outstanding purity of sound, ably supported by his band, who are incredibly tight, and the street choir to add soul.

Advantages: Fantastic lyrically and musically Disadvantages: May seem abit sameish to some
...'' is a wonderful, pop track. This is the first single to be released at the back of this album. The track is extremely catchy, shows the complexity of Joss's voice. This is very poppy but there is the slighest bit of soul in this.
''Spoiled'' is incrediable. This is a soul ballad, very nicely sang. A very mellow sounding track, the song just fits perfectly with a classic soul track. The lyrics are complex. Joss Stone's voice is very gentle and extremely soulful in this.
''Dontcha Wanna Ride'' is very poppy and jazzy. Excellently song. A incrediably catchy chorus. Instantly catchy, very mellow but catchy and poppy.
''Less Is More'' is a fantastic track. This shows again lyrically that Joss Stone can write. The quality of this song is fantastic. Very nicely sang, again very soulful but slightly rockish as well.
''Security'' shows what an amazing voice...

Advantages: Yes is brilliant Disadvantages: a lot of poor songs
...The Sound of Mcalmont and Butler is a forgotten album, Butler following his depature from suede wrote som solo stuff but he also collaborated with a black soul artist called Mcalmont, who has avery good voice. Back in ’96 they produced a little gem called yews which charted reasonably and got featured on a lot of compilation albums. That song was the motivation ofor buying this album and unfortunately the quality is not replicated throughout. What’s the excuse this time is a good song bu nothing else lives up to the soulful standard of yes, shame....
