Advantages: flawless tracklisting; original hits by original artists; forgotten gems Disadvantages: dull sleevenotes
.... The compilers Sean Rowley & Dean Marsh have really taken time to put together a CD full of some of the lesser known hits by big artists, particularly 'Rich Girl' by Hall & Oates, which is one of their best hits, when they could have easily settled for 'She's Gone' or 'Kiss on my list.'
When was the last time you heard 'Pinball' by Brian Protheroe or 'Uptown Uptempo Woman' by Randy Edelman? Probably not since the days of when they were released and you owned the vinyl single.
There are some really well known tracks for good measure such as the two Andrew Gold classics 'Lonely Boy' and 'Never let her slip away' as well as 10CC's 'The things we do for love,' but these are timeless songs surprisingly rarely featured on compilations.
A few other surprises on this compilation are 'SSSSingle Bed' by Fox which is pure cheese as well as 'Who Loves You...

...in a way that would make progressive rock fans sick, I remember myself having a hard time getting into this album, only being 16 at the time I thought to myself what's all this about then?
Because I had asked myself the question I tried to find out, this led me on a musical voyage of discovery that in taking it I found artists like Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, James Brown, John Lee Hooker the list goes on, I think because I had to work to listen too this genre I learned how to listen and appreciate other forms of music up to this point I had been a fan of basically rock music.
This was the period of time when other white rockers like Hall and Oates and the Bee Gees where getting interested in the disco beat and production methods, so Bowie wasn't exactly in uncharted waters but he was alone in using the style for individual expression...

...pure brilliance- every time i listen i just want to pick up a guitar and play. this guy is pure inspiration. so i get the guitar out my hand hovers over the strings and BAM a dreadfull dischord comes out- damn why cant i play like jimi??? because it takes natural talent and pure love for your guitar and seeing as mines a fender i dont see theres much chance of that.oh well maybe next year ill get some lessons.oh and the album? pure silk- opens with foxy lady's uplifting riff and then moves onto all the old favourites.have you got the new version? then you get a fantastic version of highway chile- fantast ic....
