Aerosmith have been around for twenty years or more and it is difficult to advise people new to Aerosmith which album to listen too. I take the easy way out and suggest 'Big Ones' which is a compilation of many of their greatest hits of the first fifteen years.
This album captures the essence of Aerosmith showing off their diverse music that ranges from heavy rock to soft rock to love ballad, with the odd jazzy song thrown in. Steven Tyler, the ultimate performer, screams and sings his way through this wonderful album. Here are some of the highlights for me:-
Love in an Elevator
I was recently asked by my 8 year old daughter what this song was about. I lied, I told her that it was about how you form friendship in offices with elevators! This song is very raunchy and has a lot of energy. The lyrics are not offensive but really make you know what the subject matter is all about. One of my favorite songs on the album with th tongue in cheek humor and the great rock n roll music.
Rag Doll
I find this song to be a combination of Jazz and Rock. The combination of the two styles produces a unique song that is full of energy.
Dude (Looks like a lady)
Another tongue-in-cheek song that has some great guitar work, funny lyrics and a very catchy tune. Find myself singing this song at the strnagest of times!!
Janie's Got A Gun
A very sad and thought provoking ballad that is very eerie in the way it tells the story with soft guitar and beautiful melodies.
Angel
A beautiful ballad that really highlights how much talent Aerosmith really has. Their harmonies are superb, the music wonderful and the lyrics well written.
Aerosmith are much more than a mere rock band, they have changed and adapted over the years to become a classic band. Even today they are producing some great music!
This album is great as an introduction to Aerosmith and will leave the listener wanting more.

You obviously tried hard with the opinion but I do think you could have given more details about his voice and style. Still a very decent opinion though.
