Aerosmith are one of the best rock bands of all time. With a career spanning over 20 years, this album represents songs from three albums of their work, as well as the odd single, those albums being Permanent Vacation, Pump and Get A Grip.
Here's a rundown of the tracks:
1. Walk On Water This song was released in 1994, and wasn't on any of their albums. The song has good rhythm and great lead throughout. Lyrics are inspiring in places and weak in others. Overall a pretty average song.
2. Love In An Elevator This song is one of Aerosmith's most recognisable songs. It was a 1989 release from their massive selling album 'Pump'. Has a great opening riff, leading into some good rhythm throughout. Lyrics are sublime and interesting. A classic Aerosmith song.
3. Rag Doll Taken from the album 'Permanent Vacation' in 1987. An interesting song with slurred rhythm and lead. Equally slurred lyrics make
this song an acquired listen.
4. What It Takes Taken from the album 'Pump' in 1989. This is one of the best songs on the album. Great Ballad with great underlying rhythm and lead. Well written lyrics round this ballad of superbly.
5. Dude (Looks Like A Lady) Taken from the 1987 album 'Permanent Vacation'. This is another hugely recognisable song. Great opening riff, that likenens to missing a note, but is quite deliberate. Good rhythm and lead throughout. Lyrics are thought-provoking although a little repetitive at the end. Great song though.
6. Janie's Got A Gun Taken from 'Pump' in 1989. Another one of the best songs on the album. A haunting eerie sound for the opening, leading into some more familiar sounds for the rhythm and chorus. Lyrics are thought-provoking and well written and make the song great instead of just good.
7.Cryin' Taken from 'Get A Grip' in 1992. A well written song. A good opening riff, moving to some good rhythm and lead. Lyrics are extremely well written, and perhaps the music just slightly lets them down.
8.Amazing Not on any of their albums, but released as a single in 1992. A ballad that lacks any real depth, has an underlying moronic piano rift, but does have lead Guitar notes playing subtlely over the top which are cool. Pretty good lyrics, but in relation to the rest of the album, pretty mediocre.
9. Blind Man Like it's predecessor not on any albums, but released as a single in 1994. Another ballad, but this is far better than Amazing. Has a slow purposeful opening rift, leading to good rhythm and lead. Great lyrics round off this superb ballad.
10. Deuces Are Wild Not on any of their albums, but was taken from the album ' The Beavis And Butthead Experience' in 1992. Has a average medium paced opening riff, leading to an average rhythm and lead. Lyrics are well written, but not ground breaking. Overall an average song.
11. The Other Side Taken from 'Pump' in 1989. A great song. Good different opening riff, moving to some smooth rhythm and lead. Good well written lyrics finish this song of brilliantly.
12. Crazy Taken from 'Get A Grip' in 1992. Another of the best. An extremely well written song. Opening riff sounding almost Country and Western, but it then leads to some great rock rhythm and lead. Exceptional lyrics iron out the creases in the song to make it outstanding.
13. Eat The Rich Taken from 'Get A Grip' in 1992. A interesting 'Samba' drumming sound to start, leading to a distorted guitar riff for the rhythm. Lyrics are well written and have some great lines. Overall this is a great well written song.
14. Angel Taken from 'Permanent Vacation' in 1987. Is one of the best songs from that album. A great well written ballad, superb rhythm and lyrics make it.
15. Livin' On The Edge Taken from 'Get A Grip' in 1992. One of the best songs to come off the album. A stereotypical rock song. It has a purposeful opening guitar riff, leading to some great rhythm and lead. Lyrics are exquisite and finish the song exceptionally.
You also get a live version of Dude (Looks Like A Lady) on the end. A fair representation of Aerosmith's work from the three albums, but obviously done for the populist vote, pity as some of their 70's stuff is quite good. Despite a couple of weak songs, this is a good album to have in your collection.
