Released in 1994 Big Ones is a compilation of the best songs from Permanent Vacation, Pump and Get A Grip along with a song from The Beavis And Butthead Experience and two new recordings.
For those unaware Aerosmith are an American rock band that have been together for over 30 years (if you forget about a five year absence of two members in the early 80's). Perhaps that's an understatement, they are THE American rock band. The band comprises of Steve Tyler (Vocals and enormous lips), Joe Perry (Lead Guitar/Vocals), Brad Whitfield (Guitar), Tom Hamilton (Bass) and Joey Kramer (Drums). From their drug infested beginnings in the seventies to their "clean" revival in the eighties they have been at the forefront of rock music for 3 decades. This album encapsulates some of their best work from the late 80's and early 90's. During this time their work was more commercially pleasing than their 70's albums and personally I think it is also better.
The two new songs on the album are Walk On Water, a good song with the usual exquisite vocals from Mr. Tyler and Blind Man, another typical Aerosmith track. Both these songs fit in with the rest of the album but would not go well on their next release (Nine Lives) so they picked the best place for them. Deuces Are Wild is taken from the Beavis And Butthead Experience soundtrack.
From Permanent Vacation we have Rag Doll (my personal favourite), Dude (Looks Like A Lady) twice (the album ends with a live version probably due to the song being used in the film Mrs. Doubtfire which was out at around this time) and Angel. From Pump we have Love In An Elevator (Love In A Lift just doesn't have the same ring to it does it?), What It Takes, Janie's Got A Gun and The Other Side which is a good mix of songs from this successful album. Finally from Get A Grip, the best album of the three in my humble opinion, Cryin', Amazing, Crazy, Eat The Rich and Livin' On The Edge are reproduced. All of these songs combine well to give the newcomer to Aerosmith an excellent starting point in finding out more about the band.
Accompanying the album was the video "Big Ones You Can Look At", catchy title eh, and this compiles the uncensored videos of the above tracks (with the exception of the two new songs) including the crying/amazing/crazy trilogy of videos along with the excellent video for Livin' On The Edge. Some songs don't have a "proper" video but instead we see the band performing the song in the studio. It also contains interviews and sections on the "making of" some of the better videos.
All in all this is an excellent album with a good variety of Aerosmith songs from rock ballads to rock classics. I recommend getting hold of a copy and I assure you that you will not regret it.

I personally love 'Pandoras Box'. I was thinking about buying this album but wasn't really sure. I think I'll change my mind if its as good as you say it is. TA ;0)
