"Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most". (Steve Tyler, lead singer, Aerosmith)
Yes, quite. Despite your opinion of Aerosmith, there is no denying that as a rock band they have certainly stamped their mark on music. This album is the 1994 release from them, and is a 'best of' culminating from the previous 3 studio albums. The track listing speaks volumes - even if the only Aerosmith songs you've heard are the MTV friendly ones. Check this out:
1. Walk On Water 2. Love In An Elevator 3. Rag Doll 4. What It Takes 5. Dude (Looks Like A lady) 6. Janie's Got A Gun 7. Cryin' 8. Amazing 9. Blind Man 10. Deuces Are Wild 11. The Other Side 12. Crazy 13. Eat The Rich 14. Angel 15. Livin' On The Edge 16. Dude (Looks Like A Lady) Live
This spans the years between 1987 and 1993, and encapsulates 3 albums. This was the time when Aerosmith were considered to be officially 'cleaned up' after drugs/drink problems. During the early 1980s 2 of the band members left (Joe Perry and Brad Whitford) and although they returned for the recording of 'Done With Mirrors' the drugs and the problems were still present.
Subsequently they got sorted out, and this album showcases some of the finest songs Aerosmith have ever done. The 3 albums that most of the songs are taken from were recorded in the space of 6 years (1987-1993):
Permanent Vacation (1987) Pump (1990) Get A Grip (1993)
Even though most of the tracks on this album are from these 3 studio albums, 1 of the tracks is from 'The Beavis and Butthead Experience' (Deuces Are Wild), and 2 of the tracks were written for this album (Walk On Water and Blind Man).
If you don't own an Aerosmith album but you like some of the songs, then I can't recommend this enough because you will love it.
If you are a traditionalist and own some of the older stuff but don't have any of the albums post-1980 then again, buy this album. Aerosmith are one of the best bands around at evolving through the decades (Bon Jovi and U2 are pretty good at doing it as well)
I really can't recommend this album enough.
