THE BAND
Steven Tallarico formed the rock band Aerosmith in 1970 as a high school band. In 1971 the band are still together but have no money, no food and just the love of their music that keeps them going. In 1972, Steven Tallarico changes his name to his now more well known name, Steven Tyler and the band land themselves a recording contract with Columbia Records and have been going strong ever since.

WALK ON THE WATER (4:54)
‘Hey little darlin’, your love is legendary, love’s four letters, ain’t in my dictionary. Scuse my position, but it ain’t missionary, ah but I want to, walk on the water with you.’ Quite an easy osey song to get us in the mood for the album to follow.
LOVE IN AN ELEVATOR (5:22)
‘Love in an elevator, Livin’ it up when I’m goin’ down. Love in an elevator, lovin’ it up till I hit the ground.’ Great lyrics to this song and a wonderful feel.
RAG DOLL (4:24)
‘Rag doll, livin in a movie. Hot tramp, daddy’s little cutie. So fine, they’ll never see ya leavin by the back door, man.’ All about a girl this one and how to impress her.
DUDE LOOKS LIKE A LADY (4:23)
‘Cruised into a bar on the shore, her picture graced the grime on the door. She’s a long lost love at first bite. Baby maybe you’re wrong but you know it’s alright, that’s right.’ I think the title says it all here.
JANIE’S GOT A GUN (5:29)
‘Janie’s got a gun. Her dog day’s just begun. Now everybody is on the run. Because Janie’s got a gun.’ This is about Janie’s struggle with life and her emotions, this is one of my favourites on the album.
CRYIN’ (5:07)
‘I was cryin when I met you, now I’m tryin to forget you. Love is a sweet memory. I was cryin just to get you, now I’m dyin cause I let you, do what you do down on me.’ Yep, we had to have the ever trusty ballad on the rock album.
AMAZING (5:55)
‘It’s amazing, with the blink of an eye, you finally see the light. It’s amazing, when the moment arrives that you know, you’ll be alright. It’s amazing, and I’m sayin a prayer for the desperate hearts tonight.’ ‘Amazing’ is such a beautiful song, even if you’re not a fan of the band, I reckon you’d pretty much make time to listen to this.
CRAZY (5:14)
‘I go crazy, baby, I go crazy. You turn it on, they you’re gone. Yeah, you drive me crazy, crazy, crazy for you baby. What can I do, honey, I feel like the colour blue’ Another ballad and just as good as the first on ‘Big Ones’.
EAT THE RICH (4:09)
‘Eat the rich: there’s only one thing that they’re good for. Eat the rich: take one bite now – come back for more. Eat the rich: I gotta get this off my chest. Eat the rich: take one bite now – spit out the rest.’ Not quite sure if this is a serious song or a pi$$ take… it’s quite amusing anyway and keeps the feeling of the album light. This is one of my favourites.

LISTENABILITY: 7/10 SONG CONTENT: 8/10 COMPILATION: 9/10
SUMMARY
Had this album quite a few years now and still listen to it now and again but only selected tracks. Big Ones is a good all rounder for the rock fan.
CONCLUSION
I would recommend this to an Aerosmith fan but not to any rock fan… it’s light hearted and fun to listen to with a few weepies if you’re in the mood.
