The perfect compliment
Review of Blade Runner (Synthesizer Soundtracks) - Various Artists by JSpencer

Advantages: Just perfect.
Disadvantages: None

...This score by Vangelis is far superior to his 1981 oscar winning score for Chariots of Fire because it compliments the exquisite looking images and futuristically grungy atmosphere that pervade Ridley Scotts seminal film. In fact I've never seen a film where the music fits so perfectly all the way through. From the gorgeously mystical opening synth chords accompanying those initial stunning images of 21st century LA, to the pounding, unforgettable end title. And I think the erotic and dreamy love theme played by a smoother than a baby's bum saxophone is totally spellbinding, but like the rest of the music, never intrudes on the action(like all the best scores). The soundtrack is the finishing touch to a masterpiece.... Read review

A great multicultural soundtrack.
Review of Collateral - Various Artists by TheFirstEscapist

Advantages: Hugely varied. Wide cultural influence. James Newton Howard. 16 tracks.
Disadvantages: None.

...I watched Collateral for the first time in Hong Kong and I thought it was fantastic. I was also really impressed with the way the music was used in the film, and I immediately bought the soundtrack when it was released here in the UK. Los Angeles is a very diverse city - as was illustrated in the film. Mexico, Cuba, Korea, the ghetto - it's all represented in this film. And of course America. You get a real feel of the dark slightly shady tone for the film with the opening track 'Briefcase' by Tom Rothrock. Not much going on musically in this track - but it sets the tone well. Most of this soundtrack is the actual songs that were used in the films. The artists include Groove Armada, Audioslave, Miles Davis, Paul Oakenfold and Calexico. The Paul Oakenfold track in particular is excellent and features during the excellent Korean... Read review

A fortunate soundtrack in an unfortunate world
Review of Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events - Various Artists by vickymoo

Advantages: the music completely sums up the films atmosphere
Disadvantages: some of the tracks are a bit short.

...and orphan's courage and resiliance. the bittersweet waves of emotion soaks into the listener throughout the cd. in the "The Marvellous Marriage" is a fun interlude in the score (and reminds you much of the same scene in the film). the two main scores of the soundtrack are introduced in "The Baudelaire Orphans" and "Resilience." in closing the film composer Newman takes one of the themes, with himself leading the way on the piano. (The total Time of the soundtrack is: 68:46) 1. The Bad Beginning 3:20 2. Chez Olaf 3:12 3. The Baudelaire Orphans 2:32 4. In Loco Parents 1:27 5. Resilience 2:30 6. The Reptile Room 1:36 7.
