...My first introduction to classical music was through some compliation CDs that my dad bought when I was a teenager. They were called " The Classic Experience" and came in a series of double discs. This collection whet my classical appetite, and gave me a healthy appreciation for the works of a certain Mr Tchaikovsky. I adore everything he has written. Among my favourites are the ballet suites. Some of these will be very familiar to you, even if you don't frequent the ballet. Though you may not know them by name, you will probably recognise them when you hear them. The big issue of me with classical music is dynamics. Unless you live in a very quiet house int he coutryside, listening to classical music can often be quite a chore; one minute it's too loud, the next minute you can't hear it, and fiddling with the volume nob can... ...This is the new compilation cd from Cream. They've started bringing these out every Christmas to capitalise the market, and to show what a cutting edge outfit they are - this is a compilation of big hits from 2000 with some new choons thrown in which should be massive in 2001. There are two cds with 41 tracks in total, so as with any compilation these cds are good value, The tracks are mixed together which isn't everyone's cup of tea, but the mix isn't bad so it suits me. CD One has a selection of some of the more commercial house cuts from 2000, with more emphasis on hard house and trance. Some of the biggest hits of the year are here, such as Zombie Nation and Delerium's excellent anthem Silence. The selection is a bit predictable - Darude - Sandstorm could win awards for presence on more compilations than any other track, and even has... Read review

...he's went for a kind of frenzy style mix, before letting "Hear My Name" come back a for a little while just to keep you on your toes. "Three Girls Rhumba" by Klonhertz has a house beat but a funky guitar riff (sampled by Martin Solveig on "Everybody"). It has more punchy punk like vocals. Here the mix is a lot more simple and he just lets the vocals "the impossible, the impossible" run before doing a straight cut to "Watching Cars Go By" by Felix Da Housecat. "Watching Cars Go By" takes things into a deeper, darker realm. It is sheer electro by definition. It's relentless in it's pumping beat with the hi-hat, gritty guitar riffs and electronic sound effects. The vocals are robotic perfect to take us into a more sinister dark side of New York. "Don't Go" by Yazoo has it's synths blended in over the top, before "Watching Cars Go By" fades... Read review
