Album Notes: The Nomads: Nick Vahlberg (vocals, guitar); Hans Ostlund (guitar); Bjorne Froberg (piano, bass, background vocals); Chips Kiesbye (organ, background vocals); Joakim Ericson (drums, percussion); Odd Ahlgren (background vocals).
Album Reviews: CMJ (7/5/99, p.28) - "...Again pushing their Marshall amps to 10, the Nomads' scathing guitar leads cut through giant slabs of power chords with slash and burn abandon....BIG SOUND 2000 is one of the Nomads' finest efforts."
Advantages: Punk!!! Disadvantages: Some tracks are similar to one another
...This album is a great. It has a harder more punksound than any of the other albums and most tracks have a great hook to them that will make you want to listen to it again and again. If you like punk, you'll love this album and if you like Green Day's other stuff you'll also like this one. Its not as poppy as the other albums and thats probably why it doesn't get as much publicity as 'Dookie' and 'Warning'.
If you like fast paced, loud punk rock with smooth running vocals and great hooks... you'll want to buy this album. There are 14 great tracks and every one of them is good in its own right.
My only criticism of the album is that some it sounds similar, but it isn't a big factor as the overall sound is good....

Advantages: I'm In Love With The Destructive Girls Disadvantages: Yeah Yeah, Yeah Yeah
...2000 was a great year for us Denim Boys and Girls, a Tribute Album to Turbonegro "Alpha Motherfuckers" was released, and those wonderful people at Bitzcore decided to re-release their first album with extra tracks. This meant that I no longer was in bidding wars with other Turbojugend on ebay to get my hands on this elusive piece of Death Punk.
Originally recorded in 1992 it is more metallic than their subsequent releases and Denim and Sailors are not as highly prominent on this album, but the later is represented on the intro to Kiss The Knife. The entire album is a raw and abrasive punk-metal beast from the fierce attack of "Librium Love" to the wonderful "Armed and Fairly Well-Equipped" which has a simply superb hook...... "Suburban Anti-Christ" is a ferocious 1 minute and 58 seconds dealing with growing up in suburbia obviously...

..., the romantic imagary of the nomadic lifestyle, the violin seeming to reinforce the idea with its haunting gypsy sound. The album bows out with a song as dark as the opening number,Archway Towers a bleak vision of the bottom rung of urban life.
Thunder and Consolation is not an immediately likeable album, but then New Model Army create music that is challenging and though provoking. They offer images from the underside of life, the gritty realities of the real world, but even if the lyrics arn`t pretty, the music is original and passionate. Take the time to understand what the band are about and you will find the music rewarding, the lyrics well crafted and the subject matter relevant.
This band deserve to be better known than they are, but in a world that thinks Robbie Williams is the new Shakespeare and Big Brother as important social comment...
