Big Sounds From The Small Screen - Stan Kenton

Advantages: A great jazz collection
Disadvantages: Stan is the only soloist

...I don't know if this album received that much attention when it came out but I've been listening to it lately a lot. I'm a saxophone player, and Getz is not even usually one of my favorites. I always thought his sound was too lightweight or something. The only albums I liked were the early Bossa Nova ones, but not any more. He plays so soulfully on this album, it's like he's literally crying, wailing, and his sound is so beautiful and big and perfect intonation--all the more amazing since he had terminal cancer at the time of the recording. You would never know it. This is a very arranged album with lots of horns and synthesized instruments and percussion and lots of different styles and grooves, but don't let that discourage you because it's very intimate and Stan is the only soloist, blowing all the way through. They bring back memories of times gone by, but still sound as astounding as the first time I heard them. There are however a few of my favorite hits that didn't make it to this album, although the brilliant new tracks on there more than make up for that. The new tracks, "Mockingbird" and "When I'm gone" are fantastic. They have lyrics that seem a little more meaningful than alot of the other songs from Eminem. I would say this album is a must for big Eminem fans and a good buy for someone who likes rap in general. However, if you are easily offended or have small children around I would not recomend... ...i first heard dido like most people on the eminem single stan and the music from stan is on this album on the track thank you.dido is a good singer and i think her voice has its own sound.i like the main track of the album that she released as a single but i found that although i liked the album after the third time i had put it on i still thought that it was a bit of the same over and over.i dont think i would now go back and listen to it again but i would ask you maybe to listen to a friends copy of the album before spending money.i would not recommend it as an album to go out of your way to get....
