Advantages: Instrumentally And Lyrically Sublime Disadvantages: None, Unless You're Not A Fan
For America, 1968 was one of the most turbulent times witnessed since the finish of the World War II, with counterculture growing in force and size, leading the charge against any form of authority or leadership. And it was rock music that was given the charge of railing against the forces, becoming almost another form of protest music, but with psychedelia instead of folk. And then in the same year as Electric Ladyland and The Beatles, comes Music From Big Pink, an album built around roots/folk-rock that was completely against the grain.
For a group that had previously been the backing band for Bob Dylan's infamous 1966 world tour that shocked its audience with its use rock backing for someone who was previously seen as the cover boy for folk music, this was not the expected route. But ultimately the album went on to inspire ...
Advantages: Even if you're not a country music fan you'll love this album Disadvantages: Not long enough
I discovered Big 'n' Rich purely by accident, I was in the process of downloading some music on a well known legal music downloading site and had put Country Music in to the search bar and this band came up.
This album was released on the 5th April 2004 in America but much later here, anywhere between the 17th May 2004 right through to the 6th September 2004 and I doubt many people have heard of them.
THE BAND
---------------
Big 'n' Rich are John Rich and Big Kenny and originate from the good ole USA. They class their music as 'Country music without prejudice', they got together back in 1998 John Rich had previously been in a band but decided to go solo and try and win a record contract where as Big Kenny managed to secure a record deal but saw his album go nowhere.
To add to this delightful pair they have like all good ...
Advantages: Pretty far out stuff, I ain't never heard anything like it before Disadvantages: Hard to get into, will need to see live to get full experience
, ?Superhero Music? came out some time later. They?re with the Manchester-based Grand Central record label and they?re a two-man band consisting of DJ Peter Parker (who some of you may know if you?re Mancunian and keep your ear to the Manchester music circuit) and Sneaky who is known by a more sensible and real name but for the life of me I can?t quite remember. Anyway, they debuted their latest album ?Fingathing and the Big Red Nebula Band? halfway through the Mr. Scruff gig, as well as playing some of their older stuff for two hours. And what a stonking two hours it was.
In hindsight its probably easier to appreciate Fingathing if you?ve seen them live like I have. Its not just the music, but in a similar manner to bands like Bjork or Goldfrapp, but they put on a great visual show as well. Peter Parker has under his control a scratching deck ...

Album Reviews
Down Beat (10/96, p.46) - 4 Stars - Very Good - "...The real pleasure is the band. Here is overwhelming evidence of the difference a drummer can make in a mass of trumpets and saxes....Rich's mark remains no less evident here than it was a generation earlier in the Artie Shaw band."
