...The band to start all bands...This album contains the best from the Yardbirds throughout time including tracks with Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton and Jeff Beck when they were with the band. The songs which stand out are ultimately FOR YOUR LOVE, HEART FULL OF SOUL, EVIL HEARTED YOU, SHAPES OF THINGS, THE TRAIN KEPT A-ROLLIN', AIN'T GOT YOU AND SMOKESTACK LIGHTNING but loads more are included on this double album set. Many bands have been influenced by this British Premier R&B rock band yet they covered their fair share of great artists themselves. Blues legend tracks - John Lee Hooker's BOOM BOOM and Jimmy Reed's BABY WHATS WRONG are also included. This is a great way to hear what ultimately is the best of the Yardbirds.... Read review

Advantages: A brilliant compilation of this bands only two albums.
Disadvantages: Poor album cover, could have used the originals.

...", for instance, sounds like The Move (the chords and rhythm are similar to "Blackberry Way") fronted by John Lennon.and "25 O'Clock" sounds like a mixture of Syd Barrett era Pink Floyd and The Electric Prunes. Want more information? "Mole From The Minstry" is The Beatles "I Am The Walrus" and The Moles "We Are The Moles" put through a blender and "You're A Good Man Albert Brown" is a pub singalong amalgam of The Kinks and The Small Faces (Remember "Lazy Sunday Afternoon"?) But you can play spot the influences till the cows come home. I spotted Strawberry Alarm Clock, The Yardbirds, Tomorrow, The Pretty Things, and loads more. And not only is the music spot on, but the lyrics hit the target too. ...Clapton Chronicles Released in 1999, Clapton Chronicles is the Greatest Hits compilation of a musician who has been performing at the top flight since his first band, 'The Yardbirds' in 1963. He has released a phenomenal amount of albums with a number of different bands, including Derek and the Dominos and Cream. This compilation comprises some of his solo hits from 1984 to 1999. Clapton's style of blues mixed with a rock ballad style has made him legendary as a guitarist as well as a vocalist. Clapton Chronicles features many instantly recognisable tracks, including 'Layla', written for Patti Boyd, his wife until 1989 when they divorced, and a live version of 'Wonderful Tonight', which is perhaps considered Clapton's signature tune.
