Album Reviews: Pitchfork (Website) - "Organic and intricate as their compositions can be, the Bees clearly appreciate the emotional power of simple, thoughtfully tiered rhythms..."
Advantages: Memorable, bouncy and infectious-sounding songs, gorgeous vocals Disadvantages: Might not be mainstream enough for some
...The Bird and the Bee are an American West Coast duo consisting of the honeyed-vocals of Inara George (the "Bird"!) and the instruments of Greg Kurstin (the "Bee"). This, their eponymously-titled debut album, dates from January 2007 but they had already released an EP ("Again and Again and Again" - the tracks from which featuring on this CD), and they went onto putting out a couple more EPs ("Please Clap Your Hands", "One Too Many Hearts") before the end of 2008. A second full-length album is expected imminently - "Ray Guns Are Not Just The Future".
It's safe to say that I go in for slightly more quirky artists at times in addition to the usual batches of female singer-songwriters - The Bird and the Bee have their quirks, true, but also manage to deliver some rather interesting and dare I say it, fairly memorable songs on their debut...

For the first time in a long time I will be one of the first to buy that book, in fact I think I'll book a day off work!
Stevie Honeywell is...

Advantages: Easy reading, really enjoyable, well written Disadvantages: None
...I have an enormous To-Be-Read pile of books in my bedroom, but I can't seem to stop getting other books from my library when I desperate to read them! So when the library called to say that they had got this book in for me at last, it sent it straight to the top of my list as obviously I have to read library books straight away! After reading this authors debut novel 'The Yorkshire Pudding Club' and loving it, I was really looking forward to reading this and enjoying it as much as the first one!
The Birds and The Bees , I'll start with saying, is actually a Scottish dance, and this appears in the book, hence the books title! It tells the tale of Stevie Honeywell, a romance writer who lives with her fiance Matthew and son Danny. However, Stevie's life is shattered when Adam MacLean bursts into her life one afternoon with proof that her...
