Advantages: Fantastic bassline. Original sounds. Good chioce of tracks. Disadvantages: It's music designed for sound systems. Sound quality suffers.
...). There are only really a handful of dub reggae artists from the 70’s, but between them they have produced a lot of material. The 21 tracks here, recorded at Randy’s, Black Ark, Harry J’s, Channel One and KingTubby’s studios are simply a taster of the total.
Sadly Augustus Pablo (Horace Swaby) died in 1999 at only 46 from the nerve disorder ‘Myasthenia Gravis’ but left a whole discography behind for us to enjoy.
The album features a whole host of bass players and drummers. On lead guitar is Earl ‘Chinna’ Smith and on rhythm guitar are Fazal Predergrass, Tommy McCook, Marquis, Bobby Ellis and Vincent Gordon. The saxophone is played by Richard ‘Dirty Harry’ Hall and Everton DaSilva is on percussions. For a good comparison check out KingTubby, Lee Perry or Scientist. The first two of which have also contributed to this album.

Advantages: great basslines and deep mood music Disadvantages: a little too political in parts
...I have many different musical tastes and am always happy to try something new.I purchased this cd a few years ago after enjoying various reggae tracks by various artists so thought i would expand my horizons and go for something a little deeper.
now dubwise and otherwise may not be to everyones taste of course but nonetheless if your a fan of seriously heavy basslines and mixed with that slow reggae beat we associate more with bob marley then this is a good cd to start with.
with 17 songs only totalling a running time of just under 55 minutes most songs are set to an average of three minutes so its pretty easy listening.
now i will point out that some of the songs(if not most) have political leanings but this is expected with dub music as a whole.with artists like kingtubby and jah stitch, glen brown and tappa zukie to name but a few its...

Advantages: Double album full of intelligent music Disadvantages: Not for technoheads
...The Orb is Alex Patterson, ex Killing joke roadie and electronics wizard. He formed The Orb in the late eighties after a colaborations with various groups such as KLF. 'Chill out' by KLF was going to be the first Orb album.
So this is the first of many Orb albums and includes their most famous track, 'Little Fluffy Clouds' which finally made top ten after being re-issued. It also includes the dub track 'Perpetual dawn'.
This album is an excursion through the universe without leaving your house. The start of the 90s brought an ambient revival first made popular in the 70s by people like Brian Eno. It drifts in and out of the tracks like you are passing through different galaxies without problems of black holes or meteorites. Even though you are millions of miles away The Orb protect you throughout. It's minimal but keeps you hooked...
