...and many other favourites who crop up here. For those new to this sort of music, it's laid back, late night, problems with my man, but what the hell sort of sentiment... ~~~ CD1: Many early artists here, including US black soul singers Dinah Washington and Aretha Franklin from the 1960's. If you've never heard Franklin, then she is the Queen of Soul, godmother to Whitney Houston and unmissable over a long career (and still performs occassionally). Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simone, Peggy Lee and Billie Holiday were the most famous singers of their day in the 1950's. Simone died only a few years ago, while Holiday fell foul of drugs, only after a career that challenged the segregation of the southern states. Her most famous track concerned the lynching of an innocent black man, and this CD collection is named in her honour. Irma Thomas... Read review

Raised in the church and still attending is where Ms. Tucker found her love for singing, as well as having a little help from her entertainer Father Jayotis Washington of the well-known group The Persuasions. As a dancer, Ms. Tucker has choreographed and danced for various dance artist such as C&C, Soul System, Jay Williams, Dee-Lite and that's just to name a few. Ms. Tucker also had the pleasure of choreographing the First Club Music Award Show and is presently choreographer for The Underground Network Dancers. As a vocalist, she has recorded and had the pleasure of doing background vocals from Dee-Lite to George Clinton. She has had many underground tunes such as "Set It Off", "Black Deliah Dee", "Open Your Heart", and was featured on "Unity". This tune was some of her earlier work and I feel... Read review

Review of 101 80s Hits - Various Artists by  supercityfan

Advantages: Music from the greatest generation ever
Disadvantages: No Frankie, Wham, Pet Shop Boys

...me to this offering? I would like to say that the Album Cover shouted at me come and buy me but sadly I would be lying. As I said before, one of my great loves is eighties music and that was the main reason for me buying this offering. To be honest with you, the cover is pretty bland and uninteresting with the numbers 101 being prominent in blue, cerise and yellow respectively, with 80’s hits written in white on a black background just below. What actually grabbed my attention was the track listing, rather than the album cover. So what did I get for my money. Lets start with the first disc. Tracks on disc 1 1.: I Want To Break Free – Queen One of Queen’s later offerings, probably best remembered for the video which showed various band members doing the hovering whilst in drag amongst other similar activities. A huge hit... Read review
