Advantages: A definite return to form, some good new ideas Disadvantages: None really
..."Eight" represents a definite return to form for New Model Army- I say return to form because "Strange Brotherhood" didn't really cut it for me.
Although this is very definitely a New Model Army album, with the usual distinctive sound- rolling drums, driving guitar, Justin's outraged snarl over the top of it all- there are some curiously intriguing left-turns taken by the band on this album which mark it as a cut above even their impressive back-catalogue of records. The stand-out track for me (if I had to choose just one) is "Someone Like Jesus", a chilling, sparsely beautiful song where Justin half-talks, half-sings, the vocals interspersed with whining harmonica, quietly strummed guitar and a faint keyboard chorus. "There's something in the corner of your life that just can't quite see" he croons, the vocals making this oddly...

Advantages: classic 70s rock songs + alcohol = happy bandcamp Disadvantages: horrendously awful inclusion of a cover version...
...innuendo dotted throughout the lyrics!
Deep, gruff vocals really do the song justice and seem to make it even dirtier, somehow, and the metal-sounding guitars are absolute perfection without going overboard into a random amalgamation of noise - I'm sure Ted Nugent really won't object as this cover. After all, isn't rock and roll partly about getting laid? Oh, and air guitars of course.
"I make the pussy purr with the stroke of my hand
they know they gettin' it from me
They know just where to go when they need their lovin' man
they know I do it for free"
05. IRON MAN (performed by Black Sabbath)
Is there anyone who doesn't know this song, or at least THAT riff? Starts with nothing but a slow bass drum beat, then the ominous distorted voice declaring 'I am Iron Man'. Oo-er. We're talking heavy metal at it's peak here! It even...

...go means it's going to be a pumping song. It would be classed as techno but with Dave it's never the simple, there are hints of genres creeping in. The vocals on the track are fantastic; not singing, more like a rap. The lyrics are infectious and go with the tune perfectly; DJ Rush is the guest on vocals and he does it oh so well. "Hey freaks in the club, here's your chance to dance, lets go lets go." The song lasts about six minutes but that is around average for a dance track. It's a fantastic track with big drum rolls at the end to round it all off. This song has a really strong message to it. Dave Clarke called it "a message of intent". He made this big, blasting, monster tune to vent all his anger at people trying to copy his style and doing rip-offs of the Red series. So basically he ripped himself off one more time by making this...
