Additional notes

Album Notes: A Frames: Erin Sullivan (vocals, guitars); Min Yee (bass instrument); Lars Finberg (drums).
The A-Frames' dark, art-damaged noise-rock hearkens back to the post-punk and Goth sound of bands like Wire, Bauhaus, and Killing Joke. Erin Sullivan sings in a zombie-style sing-speak, while bassist Min Yee and drummer Lars Finberg add plodding, thunderous rhythms to Sullivan's sometimes-chunky and churning, sometimes-angular and nervous guitar. Listeners playing BLACK FOREST--the band's third full-length (and Sub Pop debut)--front to back may find it difficult to resist the temptation to don black eye make-up and pogo around like the undead.
Yet the A-Frames are more than a mere retro act. Touches of electronics, and a healthy dose of avant-dance sensibility link the A-Frames to contemporary underground bands like the Liars. Additionally, the A-Frames have a delightful (if somewhat warped) command of pop hooks. The sing-song refrain of "Death Train" (which goes "Death train going on its final ride") invites listeners to chirp along ironically, while "Memoranda" is as close as the band comes to a straight-up pop single. The clashing combination of accessibility, noisy experimentalism, and fun, familiar Goth antics makes BLACK FOREST a must for fans of dark, off-kilter rock.

Album Reviews: Spin (p.108) - "[P]acked with sparse, whirring, and danceable noise-rock refinements that any robot would be proud to blurt."

Magnet (p.84) - "In Erin Sullivan's clipped shards of dissonant guitar and dispassionate vocals - plus the rhythm section's thuggish, precision crunch - you hear a clear longing for the scum rock of the pre-Nirvana era....The A Frames ultimately come off as serious students of history, not fashion."

The Black Forest, A place of dreams
Review of Black Forest (Germany) by  Dark-Cloudz

Advantages: Excellent hill walking, Low Key Ski resort in the winter
Disadvantages: None! well, its a bit isloated.... but that's good right?

...Well to start of i'll get it out of my system... im a quater german, that hails from the black forest town of Triberg (held the Ice skating winter olypics back in the 20's!). But being embarassed of my heritage is something I am most ceratinly NOT. The Black Forest is a Wonderful Place to go on holiday for the young and old alike. There's something to do for everyone. During the summer the blackforest is made up of rolling hills, beautiful fields of flowers and some of the most breathtaking scenary in the whole of Europe. It is EXCELLENT hill walking territory, with the guest houses FULL to the brim during the summer months. Excellent places to go include the town of Schonwald, which translates into 'Beautiful valley' which has an amazing view coupled with some of the best restaurants in the black forest. The black... THE BLACK ARROW: A TALE OF TUNSTALL FOREST
Review of The Black Arrow - Robert Louis Stevenson by  jesi

Advantages: You may gain insight into a turbulent time in English History - the War of the Roses (white and red)
Disadvantages: It is not always easy to unravel who is on which side at which time; sentences can be long and complicated.

...: A Tale Of Tunstall Forest" but this was changed when it was edited into book form ( five or six years later) to "The Black Arrow: A Tale Of The Two Roses" ~ Robert Lewis Stevenson himself considered the book as "Tushery" ~ written quickly to satisfy publishers and keep his readers happy without his usual extensive research and verification. It had a most attentive audience among young lads, who possibly identified with the seventeen year old hero, Richard Shelton, as he learnt valor and chivalry. (See extracts from the letters of RLS below). Each of the 33 chapters ends on a high note of suspense ~ making the reader anxiously wait for the next edition ~ to see what will happen next . . . The Book (and Chapter) Headings hint at the contents: Prologue ~ John Amend-All Book I ~ The Two Lads (7 chapters) Book II ~ The Moat House (5... Read review

Queen of the Forests
Review of The Forest of Dean by  watkins11

Advantages: Gorgeous location, so much to see and do
Disadvantages: None!

...I've lived in the Forest of Dean my whole life (nearly 33 years) and completely taken it for granted! It's really only been in the last few years, since we had our son, that we have started to enjoy our home, with it's breathtaking scenery, abundance of family activities and friendly atmposphere, so I thought I would share it all with you. Brace yourselves, it's a long one! Here comes the history bit! The Forest of Dean was firstly recognised by the Saxons and covers 110 square kilometers or 27000 acres of woodland. It is one of the few remaining Royal forests left in England and has a rich history as a favourite hunting ground for many of our historical kings. The vast amount of woodland is home to many animals and birds, but Forest pride is mainly given to the beautiful fallow deer. There are about 400 here, of which... Read review
