Then, on Monday October 8th 2007, a miracle happened; the saviours of modern alternative/metal rock finally released their follow up record to 'One Day Remains' entitled 'Blackbird'.
But would their new album live up to my obviously very high expectations?
On the version I got, there ... Read review

...the world. 8: Blackbird (7.58 minutes)
Now, just by looking at the length of the song, many of you may be thinking that it's simply too long for a rock track or that it is trying to openly challenge some of the worlds earlier but brilliant longer tracks, including the classic crowd pleaser, The Beatles' 'Hey Jude' and Queen's 'Bohemian Rhapsody'. However, I would like to assure you that the song 'Blackbird' is sung without pretence; just sheer charisma ... ...I think that using the Blackbird as a metaphor for moving on and flying on to greater things to be beautiful, bringing a different light on the subject of death.
Marks out of 10: 10 - from start to finish, it is simple fantastic. Modern rock music simply can't get any better than this.
9: One By One (4.20 minutes)
After such a purely mesmerizing and inspirational track, the next was surely going to be a hard act to follow. Yet, 'One By One' I ...

Advantages: Brilliant riffs, melodic solos, powerful vocals. Disadvantages: Perhaps not one song that stands out, but all are good.
Upon first listening to this album I was immediately caught by the riff in the intro, I honestly can't think of a better way to start this kind of album, it sounds strange enough to catch you off guard, but also ordinary enough so as not to scare off the less adventurous.
The albums opening song; "Ties that Bind" is a cleverly constructed heavy rock song. Brilliant riffs, catchy melodies, a memorable lead guitar.
Continuing on the guitar element, ... ...seems as though Tremonti has finally realised that he doesn't need to show off constantly anymore and has taken to playing some more melodic and infinitely better solos.
The second track, "Come to Life" opens with a much heavier riff than usual Alter Bridge standard fare. The lower tunings come back into play here and even a distorted vocal line is used to good effect. The dual vocals of the chorus show off Tremonti's vocals talents as well.
The ...

Advantages: Nice lyrics, awesome riffs, and great drums. Disadvantages: Gets boring quickly
Alter Bridge is an American alternative metal/post-grunge band based in Orlando, Florida. I prefer to think of them as a solely metal band. Well, some of the songs are more metal than others. For instance, "Come To Life" "One by One" and "White Knuckles" have a metal themed intro which boils down into a screaming rock chorus. Their lyrics are tasteful and, unlike much of the genre, original. The more popular songs include "Rise Today" and "Ties That ... ...guitar riffs and chords are impeccable, changing in exactly the right place to the best set of chords, and every song leaves you feeling that nothing could be changed to make it better. Buy it. The only problem problem I found with many of these gernes is the songs tends to get boring quickly. ...
