Additional notes
Album Notes: Coming nearly four years after 2004's rough-edged DRAG IT UP, BLAME IT ON GRAVITY is slightly smoother sounding, but still nowhere near slick. Rhett Miller and company, as always, are blending country twang and a rock & roll heart on their seventh album, but overall these 13 tracks lean a bit more towards the latter. The straightforward pop of "Rise" sits comfortably alongside the Latin-tinged shuffles of "She Loves the Sunset" and "Dance With Me," and the rollicking gallop of "Early Morning" is a nice balance to the winsome jangle pop of "This Beautiful Thing." Other highlights include the lengthy pure country ballad "The Color of a Lonely Heart Is Blue" and the sparkling pop of the anthemic "My Two Feet."
Album Reviews: Paste (magazine) (p.69) - "Miller, wit firmly intact, contributes 11 of his smartass, lovelorn pop nuggets on this record, and bass player Murry Hammond piles on with a letter-perfect Buddy Holly tribute."
...This review is being rewritten at the moment, and will reappear when I'm happy with it. I'm currently rewriting all of my old reviews to make them better and more in line with 'proper' reviews like you see on the liks of Pitchfork or Stylus, and naturally that's going to take a bit of work. Sorry for being massively inconvinient, but that's just how I roll, folks! I'll try to rewrite this review as quickly as possible, but for the moment I've written a basic guide to the album below which should hopefully serve as a place holder until my glorious full and proper review is created.
A good start for the band, this album contains "NYC" and "Absolute Gravity", two great songs, whilst the rest range in quality....

Advantages: A beautiful album with amazing lyrics Disadvantages: Near Life is the only disappointment on the CD
...Out of Nothing, the fourth Album from the acclaimed indie band Embrace, stands as their best album to date.
I brought this album a week before I went to see them live, and was astounded by the great quality of music presented on this album.
The McNamara Brothers have outdone themselves, with help from Chris Martin on "Gravity", in writing such gems as "Ashes" and "Out of Nothing".
The track listing is as follows:
Ashes:
A lively, upbeat classic gets the album off to a good start. The latest single from OON, Ashes will get you up, dancing and singing along to its catchy chorus.
Gravity:
Debut single from OON, Gravity, with its melancholic melodies, is a sure-fire hit. A beautiful song that brought Embrace back into the charts.
Someday:
One of my favourite tracks from this album. It's catchy and written with the usual Embace style...

Advantages: Really nice blend of 70's progressive rock melodies with contemporary psychedelic riffs Disadvantages: It gets too heavy in certain points if you are used to the older stuff
.... On the other all the classic trademarks of the band are still here. Mid-tempo songs with acoustic-electric guitar interchanges thrgoughout are still there(blackest eyes, train), ultra psychedelic oriental flavoured songs like "Gravity eyelids", and amazing floyd like ballads like "heartattack in a lullaby" as well. In general, an excellent addition to every prog/psychedelic rock music library.
p.s The backing vocal work is outstanding throughout....
