Advantages: Cool for cats, up the junction, other strong songs Disadvantages: A bit patchy
...The title track of Squeeze’s second album Cool For Cats (1979), produced by John Wood, along with the likes of Slap And Tickle, It’s Not Cricket and the ambiguous It’s So Dirty (actually a put down of sexist attitudes) continued Chris Difford’s obsession with nights out with the lads looking for birds and booze. Cool For Cats and Up The Junction both made number 2 in the UK charts, the latter a sad tale of young marriage doomed to failure sung by Tilbrook to one of his most enchanting melodies. Slap And Tickle also made number 24 when released as a single, confirming Squeeze’s new found popularity as pop’s heirs to Ian Dury’s Cockney crown.
The album also included The Knack, Slightly Drunk and Revue amongst others and was a very strong set, a distinctive step forward from their first album....

Advantages: amazing new album from finnish love metal band HIM Disadvantages: cyanide sun drags on a bit.
...the stellar 2007 launch of the finnish quintet's love metal album 'Venus Doom' created a wave of excitement through the metal community. going back to the less polished sound of Dark Light, and more towards the much older doom metal of Greatest Love Songs vol.666, Venus Doom presents a more mature evolution of the band. despite the 'back to basics' change however, we still see this as a HIM album, from the guitar filled love in cold blood, the crooning of bleed well to the doom laden title track.
being a huge HIM fan myself, i definately praise this album as one of the band's best - my favourite being deep shadows and brilliant highlights - so any like minded fan may view this album the same way....

“The Godfather” did not build up my hopes. After a quiet intro, the band kick in full thrash metal mode. This itself isn’t too bad, but Patton, possibly one of rock’s greatest vocalists reduces himself to the same yelping and burping delivery he did in the first Fantomas Album. That said however, the track does rock quite convincingly. Next “Der Golem” is given a doom metal work-over next, with Patton “singing” the lyrics, first in a deep monotone...
