This is Nirvana's first album after appearing in court shortly before hand over the release of the album with the bands name as Nirvana! Most of probably won't know but there was already a band from the late 60's that had used this name! Plaugurising the name a little the band won the case and were allowed to release the album later in the year!
A bit different than the other albums I have written about on here, there's a very tinny sound to the band, which is mostly were the obssesion of grunge came onto the scene.
The lead guitar / vocalist, Kurt Cobain, teamed up with Chad Channing (Drums), Krist Novoselic (Bass) and Jason Everman (Rhymth guitar.) This album seems to one that escaped the media quite well but there are some awesome tunes on there that you'll just find yourself playing over and over again!
1) Blew - A heavy guitar riff with the DS1 Boss Effect pedal synthasising it, roars in and the drums roll, the bass is hard to distinguish on here a lot of the time due to the fact of there being overdrive and distortion effects used to the max on the guitar! Good song but the bass is drowned out a litle! but still what a fantastic way to open an album!
2) Floyd the Barber - A very unusual song I think but again very catchy, with heavy distortion and the drums only kicking in on the bridge and chorus it establishes the song so much better than I 've heard other rock/alternative bands do it! Unusual lyrics, one to bang the head to I suppose!
3) About A Girl - You may have heard the acoustic version of this tune, well heres a slightly faster tempo and heavier version! This is just dirty rock and thats why everyone loves this band so much . In the words of Chris Robinson from the Black Crowes its like the nursery rhymes you read when your a child so simple but they just seem to stick in your mind! Quite a chilled song for the album but a great one!
4) School - You can sort of imagine what this song is about! just an insider as the tunes so short anyhow! it goes: -
(x4) Won't you believe it It's just my luck
(x3) No recess
(x4) Won't you believe it It's just my luck
(x3) No recess
(x8) You're in high school again
(x7) No recess
all followed by a wicked riff not sure who played one though Kurt or Jason but either way it rocks, I think you should go get it and annoy your neighbours!
5) Love Buzz - A fantastic cover and probably one of my most favourite on the album I spent a few weeks learning all the fills to this song on the guitar. Mean its gotta be good if Im gonna invest my time doing that hasn't it!
Would you believe me? When I tell you You are the queen of my heart
6) Paper Cuts - Not a great fan of this one ok its orginal and pretty dam roar material but could never seem to get into it! Always seems the one I skip on the Bleach album!
7) Negative Creep - I have always wanted to play this live in a club or maybe a club, just imagine when the guitar fades and the drums loop there being some kind of strobe light on and it would really go with the tune! I always put this song on before I got to any mad places, IE Nottingham's Rock City or Liverpool's Krazy House! Kewl places to go if your into all this type of music, and can't be assed listening to that chavvy trendy stuff that all the teeny boppers listen to! Don't mean to drone on irrelavent to the tune, but some useful info I suppose! lol! Kurt let the guitar rip on this particular song and used every bit of breath and energy he had to scream from his diagraphm!
That's all I can tell you for now, dont want to spoil such a fantastic album for you all!

Great review. This is in my hubby's collection and does sometimes receive an airing in the car - will probably have to get it out again now that I've read this. Tina xx
