Advantages: Brilliant diverse music

...How much does Catatonia owe to the Chris Carter? If it wasn’t for him would Catatonia be a lesser-known band, trying hard to get a look in the Top 40? Without a doubt their career rocketed with the release of Mulder & Scully and was strengthened by the award winning Road Rage (Best Single, Q Magazine). Now, after the storming International Velvet, comes Equally Cursed & Blessed, a more relaxed album by far. DEAD FROM THE WAIST DOWN The first single from the album and one of the best sounding songs to be heard in a long, long time. Its a beautiful little song, with some very nice sounding strings in the background, its a perfect lazy day Summer song and Cerys' voice sounds amazing. .... There is a great drum roll though! Anyway, this is followed by the single Amphetamine. This is the most punky song on the album....ridiculously fast. It could well be Blink 182. It sounds the same. It passes down pretty well though. Luckily, White Men In Black Suits follows it up. This is a thoroughly good song. Its slower, less punky, and like IWBYANL, just a good song in itself. So is Sunflowers, song #11, with a catchy little tune. Why I Don't Believe In God has a kind of folky feel..and suddenly the punk of Amphetamine seems a long way away. Its quite a sad song, and really, its not why he doesnt believe in god, its more he wishes he did. The album closes with the marathon 8 minute Like A California King. This is more a rock-grunge song, quite slow, heavy guitars. Its not the best song to end an album with, frankly. Again, its a good song. I can... Read review
