This album represents, in my opinion some of Dylan's best work. The tracks and the mood of this album seem to have moved a little from the folk/protest roots and on to something more rocky and bluesy. The tracks range from simple but catchy 12 bar blues songs such as "Pledging my Time" to the classic "Visions of Johanna" which allows Dylan to display all of his song writing prowess and seamlessly put together a track which sounds heavenly.
A big attraction to me about this album is the role that the harmonica plays, i love blues music and i love Bob Dylan and i love the sound and the harmony you can achieve, or Bob Dylan can and does acheive betweeen guitar and harmonica. This is also displayed on "Don't think twice, its alright" which isn't on this album but can be recommended as further listening if this album is to your tastes.
The lyrics are, as you would expect from one of the best song writers of all time, of a high standard throughout the album and even the lyrically weak "Rainyday women #12 and #35" has a certain charm.
If you are familiar with Dylan, this album possesses all the quality and charm that you would expect from the folk turned rock star. It also works well not only as individual tracks, but it works brilliantly as an album with recurring themes ie lust and love, particularly failed love or love in vain and as such, the album as a whole is better than the sum of its parts. This is not to say however that the tracks cannot stand alone as good songs in their own right, "I want you", "Visions of Johanna" and "Pledging My Time" are 3 very different songs but are all beautifully written and performed.
To those who are not familiar with Dylan, if you enjoy any kind of blues tinged rock with intelligent lyrics then look no further. This is without a doubt an album that you will enjoy.
Definitely amongst the best of Dylan's works

Good review. I was drawn to Dylan by his associations with The Beatle's in the '60s and was pleasently surprised to find how good he was. My favourite album is Highway 61 Revisited, although I haven't heard this album (Blonde on Blonde) I've heard it's one of his best.

As "muppet" says this is a much better opinion, with which I agree entirely. Good op, Timmy.

Advantages: Works as an album, not just as a group of songs. Work of a matured, highly talented singer songwriter Disadvantages: The only disadvantage of this album is that it shows what Dylan could do at his best, but rarely reproduced
Advantages: Enormous depth, musically and lyrically wonderous Disadvantages: None

Review of Blonde On Blonde - Bob Dylan
Advantages: Distinctive voice? Catchy tunes? Inoffensive MOR? Disadvantages: The feeling you’re hearing filtered versions of other tunes AND not very good ones at that....
