Advantages: The best musical I have ever seen Disadvantages: None whatsoever
BloodBrothers is a fantastic musical that has been around for over 20 years and is still as popular as ever. I have now seen it 5 times and cant wait to go again its that good. Book, lyrics and music are all by Willy Russell.
Plot is centred around the working class Johnstone family with Mrs Johnstone becoming a single parent quite soon into the story as her husband leaves her with a brood of children. To feed her family Mrs Johnstone gets a job at the upper class Lyons household as a cleaner and is a big hit. Soon after she realises she is pregnant with twin boys and cant possibly afford to bring up another two children. Mrs Lyons however is desperate for a child and unable to get pregnant so offers to 'buy the baby. Reluctantly Mrs Johnson agrees and the deal is done.

Who is He?
Kevin Devine is a songwriter and musician from Brooklyn. He has played in a couple of bands since graduated from university in 2001, and built up popularity doing open mic nights when he was studying. Although he is pretty unknown still (bet you haven?t heard of him?) he has managed to build up a large fan base through his exposure with Brand New, having supported them numerous times. This is mainly due to being close friends with Jesse Lacey, the singer from Brand New, who has appeared on a couple of his songs.

After seeing BloodBrothers at the Phoenix Theatre, I must agree that it is one of the most streamlined performances I have seen in the past. The play BloodBrothers is set in Liverpool, which interestingly was also the birthplace of the writer Willy Russell who was born just outside Liverpool. In this essay, I will be writing about the effect of and use of dramatic tension in the play. I will also be reviewing the plays general strengths and weaknesses.
