Despite buying the album on the clout of two songs (Take Me Out and Matinée), the other songs were surprisingly catchy. Even at the lowest points of the album, I was still tempted to sing along and tap my foot. FranzFerdinand is one of the most original new bands. I can't really think of any similar artists.This cd features 3 chart hits Michael, The dark of the matinée and Take me out, It has many other amazing tracks to listen to aswell.
This album is an addictive album one you could listen through three times on the trot and not get bored because you always find one extra twist in the bass line or find a new favorite line. My personal favorite song (and from experience other people's as well) is Take Me Out because of the wide variety of chord styles and riffs used in it. It's also very fun to play and good to listen to. ...
Advantages: Quite good for putting your coffee mug on Disadvantages: No use as a frisbee - doesn't come back. Maybe a good thing...
Wasn't FranzFerdinand the guy who got assassinated in Sarajevo to start WWI? I suppose that's not a bad idea for a band name, as they probably shouldn't survive to make a follow-up. And they did sing "Take me out", which certainly isn't a particularly poor song, especially shining out of the murky depths of the rest of the album, but I doubt it's worth spending a tenner on. Perhaps my opinions of the Arch Duke's latter day alter-egos might start WW3, but I just don't see what the fuss was about. A Mercury Music award for this? Maybe I should take up some form of musical appreciation course, but if this is the future of Scottish "rock/punk/pop", bring back Fish, all is forgiven! AND the Bay City Rollers, even Danny Wilson.... ...
Advantages: A very good tune style with catchy lyrics which pull the listener in. Disadvantages: Can be annoying if played regulary.
Personally, I think that, as this is FranzFerdinand's debut album show that they have already accomplished their goal of breaking through the United Kingdom.
I particularly like their attitude towards their music as they look like they hardly try, even though they produce very addictive songs which over power their tendencies to be not as bothered as they should be.
I am positive that if they bring out further albums after these hits that they will make them a lot better, if that is possible for them.
Even though I didn't like them to begin with, they have changed my way of heart and the way I think of music, which I think is hard for most other bands out there at the moment. ...
