There are few things in life that I really, really enjoy. Stephen King novels, watching Sky movies 24/7, the company of my mates, writing for Ciao!
AND THIS DANCE ALBUM!!!!
As a very big fan of dance music, although not a die hard Michael Jackson fan, I was extremely surprised as to the content of this album. "Blood On The Dancefloor" is an absolute gem of an album to listen to, be your thoughts on Mr. Jackson good, bad, or indifferent.
"Blood On The Dancefloor" compromises re-mixes of some of his best works. Simple as that. In total there are 13 tracks (8 re-mixes and 5 new releases), and a whopping 76mins long to boot. Re-mixes include :
Stranger in Moscow (brilliant) You Are Not Alone (really brilliant) Earth Song (sheer bliss to listen to) History (tub thumpin kick ass mix)
Other mixes include the title track of "Blood On The Dancefloor" itself and his very successful (and expensive video to boot) duet with sister Janet with "Scream". There is also some new tracks on the album, so it is not all old hash or a case of being a money making exercise. Tracks of note include "Superfly Sister", "Is It Scary", "Money" and "Morphine".
The pure genius of this album has to be listened to, to be appreciated fully. It is not a hardcore dance album. In fact I would suggest that it is more funky than dance, more mellow than hardcore. Each track that has been re-mixed is in my opinion a vast improvement on its original predecessor. Mixes are from none other than the likes of David Morales (for those of you who remember last summers re-mix of "Needin You" will know who I mean) to name but one. There is even a mix by R. Kelly, who himself needs no introduction, and a guest appearance from Guns n' Roses guitarist Slash.
The whole production of this album is very impressive. Apart from the track content itself the obligatory booklet that accompanies the CD is comprehensive and glossy. As well as the usual track listings/artists/dj's there is also a rather large list of "thank-you's" from Jacko to just about everybody including God. But I suppose we should let him have this one moment of self appreciation. This is a man who has been blessed with the ability to write some of the most lingering songs over the last 2 decades (possibly longer). The album is more of a celebration, a tribute to the undisputed King of Dance. Be honest, no-one can near Jacko in terms of dance capability. The album reflects this. Once you turn it on you instantly get this vibe and it won't let go. Even if your not a Jacko fan, but enjoy just damn good music then give this a thoroughly good listening to. You really don't know what you are missing.
** Many thanx to one special lady who bought this for me on my birthday this week You know who you are……….
