... On his return, Dylan and his wife of 10 years separated, giving way to the pain and heartache that flowed into his small notebook, and from there into the songs produced for this album 'Blood On The Tracks', which was recorded in September 1974. The album didn't get released until early 1975 ... Read review

Advantages: One of Dylans Best Albums, packed with songs from the heart. Disadvantages: You may not like Dylans voice! Its an aquired taste!
Anyone reading this, who has read previous music reviews that I have written, will begin to realise that I tend to favour singer/songwriters in the country/ folk/ pop/rock genre. I like music/songs that have something to say. A ballad written with a broken heart, or lyrics showcasing an outpouring of anger or strong opinions, can create a very powerful statement, in a positive way, which people will relate to for many years.
Bob Dylan (Robert Allen ... ...He is an American singer-songwriter, musician, author and poet whose career has spanned over 40 years. His early songs are known by millions and have had many cover versions, probably the most well known being 'Blowing in the wind' 'The times they are a-changing' 'All along the watchtower' and 'A hard rain's a-gonna fall'. Some of these became anthems for anti-war and civil rights movements. Dylan married Sara Lownds on November 22 1965, they had ...

I cried, I CRIED Review ofBlood On The Tracks - Bob Dylanby
pink
Advantages: Excellent music and songs, a truly great album Disadvantages: Utter Pain, agony of an artist.. should you enjoy it?
...a sacred relationship. Blood On The Tracks (1975) is one of Bob Dylan's most famous albums and widely held as one of his best albums. It is a remarkable album indeed and wins critical acclaim like no other album yet at the time it came out it wasn't as well accepted. The first reviews were negative and wondered what the hell the album was all about. One of the first things the critics didn't like was the fact that unlike all the other records of ... ...of the time that suggests Blood On The Tracks would become a forgotten Dylan album, swept under the rug for safekeeping. Well here we are decades on still talking about what a great album it is! What wasn't quite as obvious on first release was something we take as a simple fact of history now: Dylan's marriage was blowing itself apart and tearing the man himself in half. This album was showing the spilt blood along the way, the Blood On The Tracks. ...

Advantages: innumerable. probably my favourite album. Disadvantages: running order? and that's only a maybe...
i am going to cut to the chase. this is probably the best dylan album you will ever hear. that makes it, in my book, one of the best albums ever. and it is. it really really is. dylan comes out of a creative decline to blow away all competition to the crown of rock poet of his generation. he is a god, and this is his bible.
the whole album was originally recorded in open E tuning, which gives the songs that were left untouched by the rerecording ... ...find in other guitar based tunes.
first the indisputable magnificence of tangled up in blue. there have been essays written solely on this song, so i shan't indulge in an attempt to discuss the lyrics in any depth... if you haven't heard them though, it tells the story of a love triangle, but to be honest that doesn't matter, it seems on first listen to be a pastiche of semi-surreal moments in the life of a loner... a first rate vocal performance ...

Advantages: One of Dylan's Finest Albums Disadvantages: None
This album was released in 1975 during the break up of his first marraige, and was the first and best of a triumvirate of excellent albums that Dylan released in the 1970's , the others being "Desire" and "Streert Legal". In fact it's between this and "Blonde on Blonde" for his best album ever.
There are songs that obviously relate to the breakup such as the first single from the album, "Tangled Up In Blue" and the poignant , acoustic "If You See ... ...Storm" and "Lily, Rosemary and The Jack of Hearts".
Interspersed with the songs about the marraige breakup is an excellent snipe at the press, "Idiot Wind" , that , unusually for Dylan, contains more than a little humour.
Every track on the album is absolutely stunning, my own favourites being "Lily, Rosemary and The Jack of Hearts", a nine minute opus that doesnt change pace throughout, and is a story of a romantic triangle entagled with a bank ...

Blood and guitars Review ofBlood On The Tracks - Bob Dylanby
MagicKitten
Advantages: Great album, very "listenable" to. Disadvantages: There is more to Bob Dylan than this, you have to listen to his earlier stuff too to get the full impression
Some people see this as Bob's finest LP. I really can't decide which I like best- it's certainly different to his earlier, more acoustic work, alhough still with the unmistakable Dylan seal of quality.
The songs on the album were all written about his recent divorce, and deal with breakning up, lurve, etc. So how is it different from any other album you might say? Well, these aren't just any old soppy love songs, they're deeper & more meaningful. ... ...There isn't a single stand-out track for me; there are many great songs on this album- You're Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go, Lily, Rosemary & The Jack of Hearts, If you See Her, Say Hello, Tangled Up in Blue , really the whole album!!!
I may be biased, but it is a great album, and would be a good introduction to Dylan as it is fairly accessable, but not too poppy. For those who prefer his earlier work, it's still worth a listen as, although ...
