Bloody Minded (The Best Of Cock Sparrer) - Cock Sparrer

...'the torch' onto his son who is just as bitter as he is. I like it as it is quite an emotional piece and also gives the listener a break from sing-along anthems. 'The Fortune of War' this track opens with the US national anthem suddenly stopping. A fast beat song about someone being killed by a gang features a nice touch of mixing in a TV news report with the song. Features Colin McFaull of Cock Sparrer who provides a good mix on the vocals with Al and Ken blending in quite nicely. A Great punk anthem. 'A Few Good Men' shows DKM at their sing-along best with a chorus that is too damn catchy. "Join us in a song, we shall rise and sing". It shows the talent the band have to immerge an audience into there songs and get them singing and clapping along in unity. Advantages: Two great bands one CD
Disadvantages: Only around 30 minutes, Anti-Flag tracks can drag

...that this is an Anti-Flag song as I thought they only went on about the U.S Government, however you can tell at the start it's Anti-Flag as it has the Anti-Flag 'sound' which can easily be spotted on the opening guitar. However the Bouncing Souls add they own trademark sound, giving you a great sing along tune, which when listening to the Anti-Flag original wasn't really achieved. Great, great lyrics about being a young punk fan. Bryan's Lament is up next sung by Bryan, who makes a good singer. Good old love punk song here, with a lot of focus on the bass. Great melody on the chorus with Greg providing backing. A real sweet song about longing for someone. Next up, personally I feel is the best track on the whole album 'We're Coming Back' (Cock Sparrer cover) which whenever this track comes on, it's a guarantee that the volume is due to be cranked up... ...Well, yes. Usually I'd wear a mask of cynicism and merely say Marilyn Manson (the man and the band) aren't too worth of praise. But the first time I heard 'Mechanical Animals' I arrived at a surprising turning point. I began to realise that away from the mass market shock image that the kiddies love so well, well, somewhere in there was both groovy music sharing a depth with The Beatles (ie "catchy" "disposable") and above that pretty fine lyrics. 'Great Big White World' sets about making the long play take flight. I have to take my hat off, aside from sounding great I really am quite partial to the lyrics. My hat shall now remain off until the end. Far from being shock-cock-rock this song is an articulate and thought-provoking examination of a world that has lost all its colour, or rather has been drained of all its colour... Read review
