deserves some exploration by the listener. Quebec had a lovely deep bluesy sound to his tenor saxophone and made six very good albums for Blue Note in the early 1960s. In the main he avoided the faster numbers and concentrated on the blues and ballads, occasionally wandering into mid-tempo territory. This is true of Blue and Sentimental, which is undoubtedly his best album, and has a gorgeous soulful ballad for a title tune. On most of the tracks the Miles Davis rhythm section of Paul Chambers on bass and Philly Jo Jones on drums join him, with Grant Green on guitar. Apart from Quebec's heartfelt tone the album is notable for Green's blues playing, which will be a pleasant surprise for those who only know him for his funky riffs. An album, which is very good as, opposed to classic, but still, there are many that would love to boast of an album, which reached that level. --Phil Brett
