Higher Learning Film Review

Advantages: Characters, Issues
Disadvantages: A little over-ambitious in places

John Singleton?s Higher Learning deserves some serious respect for exploring a number of sensitive issues that many University students encounter at some point in their lifetime-- some of which include institutional racism, rape, and the individual desire to be accepted. While some of the characters lack emotional complexity and the story at times may feel a little "preachy", the film is still a very enjoyable and thought-provocative experience -- one that'll linger with you for quite some time afterwards. Primarily, it's a film concerned with identity, with the numerous individual struggles interlinked. Malik Williams (Omar Epps, In Too Deep) is the campus track star convinced that everyone is against him because of his skin colour ("It's no longer about what a person says but what they think," he says. "So in my mind, you've been ...

Galactic Civilisation or one planet wonder.

Advantages: Compulsive Gameplay
Disadvantages: No major ones, but several little gripes that add up

As anyone who has read some of my earlier reviews will testify, I really like my strategy games, and after hearing nothing but good things from magazines and American websites, I decided to get a copy of Galactic Civilisation. For me, the coin is still in the air over this game. True I have played it for many hours and find it rather addictive, but there are quite a few little problems which although insignificant on their own tend to add up. I will point out some of these later on. The game itself cost £29.99, however that was just after release and I have already seen it at £24.99 in Game and it can be bought from any major computer store. The hardware requirements of the game are as follows with a 600MHz processor being a minimum. Anything over 1GHz is recommended by the manufacturer. In addition 64MB RAM is required as well as ...

The Blue Mountains

Advantages: everything
Disadvantages: nothing

This next review is on my time on The Blue Mountains National Park, located in Sydney Australia. A few friends and I had decided to hire a van and take a tour of the national park, as we had been recommended it by several people we had met along the way. I am usually a fan of national parks; it gives you a chance to take in the scenic view, it gives you a chance to relax and unwind if you have had a busy week, and you even get to see some wildlife. It?s a great experience, which allows you to camp overnight, whilst also have a magnificent driving experience. History & Park Info: The park covers 267,954 hectares, which included several mountains and rivers along the trek. The highest point of the park is Mount Werong (1,215 m), and there are some breathtaking views from the top. The area became a national park in 1932, and ever since ...
