Advantages: A complete tour around the world of The Clash Disadvantages: They included one or two naff singles
...existences. Angry, pessimistic and anti-establishment, these bands were despised by the older generation and feared by heads of State. Loved, worshipped and adored by the youth, it was to be obvious that Punk, as we saw it, was to be short lived. The young grow up, and in a matter of only five, or so years, it was all over.
The Clash adapted their Punk sound to fit each generation. Those who jumped wildly to the riffs of 'White Riot' and 'I Fought The Law,' were preceded by those of my generation who sang, out of tune and loudly to 'Rock The Casbah,' and 'Should I Stay Or Should I go,' Both groups of listeners heard two totally different sounds from the same band. For the youth of then, they created an anthem for all; Punks, Rockers and Pop freaks alike.
'The Singles,' gives us a tour through the career of The Clash. We can look...

Advantages: all the best Suede songs on one disc Disadvantages: The new tracks let this one down
.../10
10 Everything Must Flow
In contrast to the previous track this is one of my favourites on Head Music. It is another gentler Suede song which starts with strings. I just like the lyrics. They have the poetic lyrics of superior Suede songs. Everything must flow. Is this a metaphor for life continuing? I’m not sure. I love the imagery of |Lovers kiss in the openness”. Probably one of their less known singles but to my mind an excellent song 9/10
11 Stay Together
Perhaps the ultimate Suede song. It has Brett’s vocals sounding hauntingly strange. This is a love song but it is not too mushy/. It is wonderfully evocative lyrics that paint a picture which is a mark of a great Suede song. There i are traces of the theme of urban living that reoccurs throughout Suede’s music’s A wonderful epic. .

Advantages: Some moments of heart stopping beauty and confirmation that Suede can still astound when they choose to Disadvantages: Far too much half realised filler and several tracks that resemble a poor photocopy of the band's once individual sound
...New Morning’ feels and sounds like an album for Suede current constituency alone.
Some of this can perhaps be put down to the record’s protracted gestation. Having lost keyboard player Neil Codling to a mixture of ME and something of a song-writing struggle between him and Anderson, Suede struggled to find a replacement. Alex Lee formerly of Suede soundalikes Strangelove was eventually recruited but one suspects some sense of momentum was lost. This was no doubt compounded by the decision to scrap an entire album’s worth of material recorded with a number of producers. The eventual released album was mainly recorded in little over a month with former Britpop production guru Stephen Street (Blur, Morrissey, Sleeper), but with the background it hardly seems surprising no real risks were taken.
