Chemical Brothers....I still believe
Review of Push The Button - Chemical Brothers (The) by  x_helix_x

Advantages: Fabulous production, a real mix of styles
Disadvantages: None!

...Well it's another year and another release for the legends that are the Chemical Brothers. The Chemical Brothers are two guys called Tom and Ed; the pair met while at university in Manchester in the late eighties. At this time a revolution was going on, a musical revolution. These days were the days of the legendary Manchester club The Hacienda. Dance music was really beginning to take off in all it's forms wether it be the vocal, funky house from America or acid house, hardcore or techno. Tom and Ed fell in love with this emerging scene. The pair also had a love of hiphop, funk, rock and soul. The next step for the music lovers was obvious; they began to DJ under the name of "The Dust Brothers". They earned legendary status among clubbers for their fantastically eclectic sets. But things got even bigger.... In 1992 they made... Read review

Are You a Dapper Dan Man
Review of O Brother Where Art Thou - Original Soundtrack by  Entwife

Advantages: Wonderful music flawlessly presented
Disadvantages: This genre is Not for everyone!

...era. In the ten page booklet included with this CD, Ethan Coen says, “The mountain music, the delta blues, gospel, the chain-gang chants, would later evolve into bluegrass, commercial country music and rock & roll. But it is compelling music in its own right, harking back to a time when music was a part of everyday life and not something performed by celebrities.” Anyone who has seen O Brother would have to agree that the music is inextricably entwined with the feel of the film as a whole, and that it is a major contributor to setting in regards to both time and emotion. Unique in the genre of soundtracks, we are given nineteen songs in this CD that can take you back to time when everyone was scraping to get by and needed a little hope handed to them from time to time. The Play list: 1. Po Lazarus performed by James Carter... Read review

Enough Blues to Keep Me Happy
Review of Blues Brothers 2000 - Original Soundtrack by  Soho_Black

Advantages: Some decent rhythm and blues
Disadvantages: Film dialogue in the wrong places

...on the move, which is where I prefer to have music playing and so I wanted a copy of the soundtrack album. Considering where the Blues Brothers were supposedly from, the opening number is quite appropriate. "Born in Chicago" is a 1960s style blues number with a rock 'n' roll undertone and reminds me of a slowed down version of a Chuck Berry song, although with the emphasis more on the blues end of the spectrum than the more rock 'n' roll sound that Berry had. But as I'm a Chuck Berry fan, even a slight comparison is good for me. The performer of the next track, "The Blues Don't Bother Me" is perhaps the most interesting thing about it. Although he's been a part of the Blues Brothers Band since the start, this is the first time I've heard Matt "Guitar" Murphy sing. It turns out he's got a gruff voice which is perfect for singing the blues... Read review
