Joe Satriani- Long Blues Day

Advantages: Some nice relaxing tracks.
Disadvantages: Too many drawn out blues tracks

things warmed up. The basis for this song is a more contemporary blues style with the added effects and playing techniques of the modern day. Although this song is pretty good, and many people like it, it doesn't strike the same chord with me because I feel some of the whacky effects take away from the ease at which you can follow this song, leaning somewhat to "Vai Territory". (Vai : ref to guitarist Steve Vai) 2 - If Following on quite well from Cool#9 this song too is a rocky blues rendition. The main line is rather catchy, and this track is a chill out song. It strikes me as nothing particularly special and at near 5 minutes long I think that it could have been shortened. This is definitely the jam track of the album. 3 - Down, Down, Down Something more mellow, typical of the number 3 slot on any of his albums, typically the love ...

Hard hitting rocky blues, live Led Zeppelin at their best!

Advantages: Live Led Zeppelin!
Disadvantages: A few tracks are a combination of two nights performances (not a negative as far as im concerned

beautiful acoustic tracks "Going to California", "Thats The Way" and "Bron-Yr-Aur Stomp". Hearing these acoustic tracks live is worth it. Quite often when I listen to this CD i'll either listen to the first half of it, or the second half; either the hard rock/bluesy side of Zeppelin or the mellow acoustic sound. They show off Zeppelins tallent, moving from their defining heavy blues/rock sound and showing that Plants voice is equally suited to mellow acoustic sounds, and Jimmy Page is as proficient on an acoustic as his electric guitar. The quieter of the quartet, John Paul Jones, is particularly incredible during the acoustic songs, showing that his tallents extend pass the bass guitar onto other less well known instruments such as the mandolin, adding depth and giving a unique sound to each of the tracks. The other two CD's seem to be a real ...

Three City Lives

Advantages: easy to get into
Disadvantages: some more serious issues

While browsing WH Smiths in Stanstead Airport just a couple of weeks ago I had trouble choosing my holiday read. I pick books up read the back and put them back on the shelf. One thing which is so silly that attracts me to a book is the colour. One shelf of brightly coloured books look more appealing than the shelf of plain, dull looking books (even though I am sure they're not dull) I picked up Patricia Scanlan 'City Lives' it was the only one they had of hers. I knew she had done a few books because I have remembered seeing them in the book club magazine. I have never read any of her books before so I thought I would give this book a go. It is a brightly coloured book with a yellow background with bright pink writing and big pink flowers on it. When I started this book I found it quite easy to get into. You are given ...
