Blues For Greeny is a dedication to Peter Green, a blues guitarist, who Gary Moore saw in 1967 first, then on a number of subsequent occasions, and actually bought his guitar off him, thus the title of the album. The Blues are totally guitar-dependent, so if you're not much into that......WHY??! No words can describe the feeling, the juices that flow through ones veins when sampling a well-written blues song.....bliss.

1 - If You Be My Baby

Starts with a jovial , jaunty guitar riff that draws you right into the upbeat mood of the song, despite the title. Has you singing along word for word.

'If you be my baby, tell you what I'll do
I'll give you so much lovin, you gotta love me too'

2 - Long Grey Mare

Not too sure if this is actually about the animal above, or disguised to represent something else. Judging by the lyrics, I'll stick to the former, otherwise it's a somewhat rude song in certain parts, and Gary Moore doesn't write those kind of songs. Might have been better just stripping the song part and leaving the music only. my least favourite on the album.

'I got a long grey mare, she won't let me ride
she makes me brush her in the morning
and put her to bed every night'

3 - Merry Go Round

Typical blues love ballad. 'Nough said.

4 - I Loved Another Woman

The reason I hurried with no. 3 is this. Ahhhhhhh..............gorgeous song. I remember being hooked on the words and guitar riffs for weeks on end. Very soft on both aforementioned aspects, not hard rock or blues. If you can sample/download this song, I highly recommend you do.

'My baby's gone and left me, cryin by myself
My baby's gone and left me, cryin by myself
I loved another woman, now I lost my best gal'

Well, serves you bloody right for cheating mate.

5 - Need Your Love So Bad

Slow guitar intro. Self-explanatory title, really. All about finding and having your soulmate. Smoochy song to slow dance to, with someone, preferably, rather than an inflatable doll !! Beautiful song.

''Need someone's hand to lend me through the night
Need someone's arms to hold and squeeze me tight'

Where's the darn light switch?

6 - The Same Way

Another upbeat single. All about mutual love between a man and a woman - oh dear, I sound like a bleedin' sex therapist.

'Don't want no evil woman
Make a fool out of me
My girl she's so sweet
She's my honey bee'

7 - The Supernatural

If this single had words, it would have been my favourite in the album. I'm actually listening to it as I write this, and the guitar is taking to places ..........Phew, sorry, but the guitar always had that effect on me, I just melt away every time a great riff is played....besides, we've all pretended to play air guitar at one time or another, but this is not of the manic, 'throw your hands everywhere' type.

Pure Magic

8 - Driftin'

Typical blues song. I'll let you judge for yourselves to agree or disagree.

'I ain't never missed a woman
Anytime or anyhow
I said I ain't never missed a woman
Just like the way I miss my baby now'

9 - Showbiz Blues

A lot of slide, in yer face, blues guitar-based song. All about rock & roll lifestyle, touring, playing gigs and what that usually entails afterwards - we'll that to your imagination.

'I would roll from town to town
I was a rambling pony
People I would roll from town to town
Yes just looking for a sweet woman
And making all my love come on down'

10 - Love That Burns

Ultra slooooooow track.

'Will you love me tomorrow
Like you say you love me now
When the flames of our flesh have stopped burning
And the fire of our love has gone out'

Mmmmmmm.......wise words. We all go headlong into things at times, not just relationships, not weighting all options accurately. This song typifies that notion.
Another excellent track

11 - Looking for somebody

The start is almost like a faulty siren going off as it pleases. Nice touch. A befitting finale to a brilliant album of blues collectives.

'I gotta feeling blues gonna be my only way
'Cause I gotta feeling people blues gonna be my only way
'Cause when you're lookin for somebody
Lookin for somebody'

A summary, my dear friends. I rate this album as excellent, top notch, for its style,i.e. the blues. Pure guitar, pure sorrow lyrics (though I admit, there was only a little of this here, thankfully, as the blues are blissful, but so bloody depressing in its lyrics, but hey, that's why it's not called 'the greens !')

I've listened to Gary Moore on and off for some 6 years now, this is one of his much better works. He, on occasions, tends to be a bit repetitive in his songs, this album totally avoids that, and even has two 'extra special' tracks on it besides his usually top quality stuff.

If you like the blues, even in the slightest, you'll love this.

Wonderful music.
