Album Reviews: New York Times (1/5/95, p.C15) - Included on Jon Pareles' list of the Top 10 Albums Of '94 - "...Brash, smart raps, drawing on Jamaican dancehall rhythms as well as American hip-hop..."
Advantages: Can't get no sleep Disadvantages: only 13 tracks
...The Wu Tang Clan is a group of 9 rappers from the US. It used to be 10 before O.D.B. left to go to a alcoholics rehab. centre.
This is not their first album, and although I love it and would urge you to buy this album even if you've never heard of The Wu Tang Clan, it doesn't sound like a group of experienced rappers.
It's a lot like the first Fugees album 'Blunted On Reality'. No song stands out to me as the best, except maybe 'I Can't Go To Sleep' which features Isaac Hayes. It's a song about how he is scared to go to sleep in case he gets killed, Isaac Hayes is trying to calm him down.
Gravel Pit is the 'MTV-over-played-song-of-the-year' so I don't rate that as one of the best on the album. It is a good album, but not very polished. And there are only 13 tracks, compared to Eminem's 18 and Dr. Dre's 22. Half the value I say.

Advantages: A good intro to hip hop, friendly - funny too! Disadvantages: I want the fugees back!!!
...When the fugees announced they were doing solo projects, I had mixed feelings. The fugees' unique mix of hip hop and other styles made them one of the finest hip hop bands, so I was hoping that the score wasn't going to be the last offering from them...
We have been promised many times (and even in the opening track of ecleftic) that the fugees will reform, but we have yet to see that unfortunatly.
It wasn't much of a problem though, because the first round of Albums from the main fugees were inspiring, Lauren Hill's album was the most commercial (but excellent with it), Wyclefs was the most complete and Pras' showed that he wasn't to be seen as the quiet one, but a very talented one.
So I was happy with the first round of albums, and ready for the next fugee album, which was rumoured to reach us in 2000... still waiting!
But one...
