The first studio album from the folk/rock giant Bob Dylan is a self titled collection of 'folk standard' cover songs and a couple of originals. The sound is characterized by the untamed and unique yet tuneful sound of Dylan, his acoustic guitar and his sharp harmonica sound.

follow-up to the more cynical and introspective Blood on the Tracks. Working with lyricist Jacques Levy, Dylan offers a work with rougher edges and greater urgency that is distinguished by the prominence of Scarlet Rivera's melancholy violin and Emmylou Harris's bare harmonies. The album features two of Dylan's famous wrongly accused-and-misunderstood-criminal sagas but truly peaks elsewhere. Exotic imagery meshes with simple melody on "Isis," one of Dylan's most appealing rambles. The droning piano and plodding drums propel a mystical journey that contains some of his most insightful (and most ridiculous) lyrics about paranoia, trust, betrayal, and, of course, desire. ("What drives me to you is what drives me insane.") In the end Dylan shows no signs of being jaded by love's fickleness. Delicate and heartbreaking, the finale "Sara" is a gift to his ex-wife that eloquently recounts the wonders of a relationship, perhaps in an attempt to revive it. --Marc Greilsamer

The first studio album from the folk/rock giant Bob Dylan is a self titled collection of 'folk standard' cover songs and a couple of originals. The sound is characterized by the untamed and unique yet tuneful sound of Dylan, his acoustic guitar and his sharp harmonica sound.
While this is not Dylan's most praised or powerful effort, the album sets Dylan up perfectly for what was the first stage in an impressive career. Dylan places himself firmly into the 'folk' genre here and with songs like 'Song to Woody' (written by Dylan), where he shows us his appreciation for topical and powerful lyricists.
This album is lacks extensive lyrical contribution by Bob Dylan and, thus, we miss out on the most important side of Dylan's music. For a first time listener to Dylan, a more sensible starting place is his second album 'Freewheelin' Bob Dylan' It is however a necessity for seasoned Dylan fans.
Dylan's interpretations of folk standards like 'House of the Risin' Sun' are impressive and make the album generally pleasing. While Dylan's acoustic prowess is not fully developed here; the album still has a raw appeal that Dylan still retains to this day.
It would be shortsighted to suggest this as one of Dylan's best albums, for he has such a wide and diverse discography. This isn't even the best of Dylan's acoustic albums. In fact, this album marked a humble beginning for the esteemed 'folk-singer' and once his other albums are considered, one can see why. 'Bob Dylan' is however still a highly enjoyable listen, especially for folk lovers and it is a vital part in the progression of the genius that is Bob Dylan.
Advantages: Brilliant Musically Disadvantages: only 2 origional compositons
Bob Dylan's first studio album and in my opinion probably his best ever album , dylan is raw and uncomprimising whilst also playing almost every note to perfection, his harmonica playing is soul piercingly beautiful and gives the whole album an undertone of rustic charm , this album is a testament to the man and the repuatation which holds this is early young head strong dylan and it realy shines through from the first track. Dylans lyrics steeped ... ...musical ability provides in my opinion of one of the greatest albums ever recorded , even for people who have never really got dylan or never really been into him this isnt greatest hits dylan this is a passionate and raw recored from one of the greatest musicians of the 20th century desevers respect. ...

Advantages: Good songs, DRUNK, interesting break away from previous work Disadvantages: drunk, etc
Another Side Of BobDylan is the rather poor title that the record company stuck on this BobDylan's fourth album. This album came out in 1964 the same year as it's preceding album The Times They Are A-Changin' yet it is remarkably different. The title is a poor one because this is so obviously showing another side of BobDylan to that seen in his first three albums.
The story of the recording of this album is one that is so utterly 'Dylan'. It was all recorded and done in one single night. The session was heavily fuelled by cheap wine. Dylan loved cheap wine, not sure why cheap wine rather than not cheap wine but he's full of quirks like that. And well I'll let the track by track review tell the story, all I'll say now is that it might be a good idea to get drunk yourself to listen to the album.. or even read a review of it, here ...
Advantages: Poooower, Great Music, Dylan un-hidden Disadvantages: none fool
The passion of a burning heart and soul, unleashed, freewheeling down the road. The bright ambers of the idealism of youth.
~~~~Introduction~~~~
The second album from BobDylan came in 1963 and frankly it changed everything. The world had gone through years of unobtrusive, careful music. Rock and Roll was the first to shake the cage, but the words were frankly pointless. Here comes Dylan and drags Folk music out of the bushes and thrusts it centre stage. This was different though; it wasn't just old style folk music. No. Dylan threw himself, every last bit of his being into his art. This led to the release of one of the most powerful albums in recording history. The Freewheelin' BobDylan is a very famous album; it's widely recognised to be one of the true masterpieces of the music art form. The most amazing thing is that you ...
Advantages: Appeals to folk and rock fans, and is simply a great set of songs Disadvantages: Not as focused as other Dylan albums
'Bringing It All Back Home' is simply great. This album harnesses both the developed acoustic skill of BobDylan, and the beginning of his rock and roll legacy.
Released at a time when many people longed for the acoustic folk of the BobDylan of the mid 60's, the ever dynamic and stubborn BobDylan expressed his frustration and displayed his genius through the medium of rock and roll. 'Subterranean Homesick Blues' is a perfect example on this album of the fantastic songs Dylan produced with his blues rock sound while he maintained his complicated and unique lyrical ability.
However, the album harbors songs like 'It's All Over Now, Baby Blue' and 'Mr Tambourine Man', which can be more closely likened to earlier acoustic Dylan work. Amongst Dylan's versatile amalgamation of acoustic folk and rock one constant remains - the sheer lyrical ...
Also available with THE TIMES THEY ARE A-CHANGIN' on 1 cassette. Solo performer: Bob Dylan (vocals, acoustic guitar, harmonica). Recorded in Columbia Recording Studios, New York, New York in 1961. Includes liner notes by Stacey Williams and Robert Shelton. The first album from the greatest musical poet of the 20th century gave little indication of what was to come. Although released in 1962, it reeks of the 50s folk/protest movement. Many of the standards covered by Dylan had been sung by a thousand troubadours throughout the McCarthy era and the anti-war movement. Dylan sings like an innocent angel, and makes Eric Von Schmidt's lusty "Baby, Let Me Follow You Down" sound sweet. The seeds of greatness were apparent in the sensitive original "Song To Woody," a sadly overlooked entry in the massive Dylan catalogue. A wonderful exercise in what was then and what is not now.
