Wu-Tang Clan dominated the mid to late 1990s with a hailstorm of discs that saturated the rap marketplace. RZA, the Wu's über-producer, added to the storm with Bobby Digital in Stereo, the soundtrack for a straight-to-video film directed, produced, and written by RZA under the alter ego Bobby Digital. Whether he's able to compete with Master P on the cinematic front remains to be seen, but the project surely confirms RZA's mastery of the production studio and of the hip-hop domain in general. Without sounding too threatening or gangsta, RZA--er, Digital--lays down street-lethal beats and rhythms that resonate with a futuristic cyberpunk theme. And while the songs are fairly free of melody, there are plenty of atmospheric keyboard noises, sound effects, and samples to keep things pumping. --Jon Wiederhorn

The Rza as Bobby Digital - Rza brings us this superb album as his alter ego Bobby Digital. Supporting this CD is a few not to miss tracks that once listened to will be engraved in the brain as masterpieces in Hip Hop.
I have become slightly obsessed with the gravely sexiness if the Rza's angry raps and I have a massive collection of his work. This is my favourite CD amongst the collection. I paid around £10.99 for it in HMV quite a while ago but I have seen it for next to nothing on eBay quite recently. It has a massive total of 21 tracks which were put together for this album back in1998. The Rza produced, arranged and mixed the tracks for Wu-tang productions.
Those that have read my earlier reviews will know a bit about Rza and the Wu-tang clan, so I won't go into too much detail about their history....
The Rza is one of nine main members of the Wu-Tang Clan who have produced album as a collective and also have numerous solo ventures. The other members include some well known Rap artists such as Old Dirty Bastard (ODB rest in peace), Method man who worked with Texas a few years ago on an alternative version of their 'Say What You Want' track. They have brought out hundreds of albums including solo and group work. They represent heavy, American Hip Hop and have been around a few decades but are still as raw and original today as they were at the beginning.
The design of the CD case is fairly good with a drawing of a superhero type man (Bobby Digital) in a armoured suit with a massive gun and cars and women in a blaze behind him. The cover is white in colour with a large RZA in pink. There is heaps of other information on the back of the CD case including track list and other up and coming albums. The Track list is as follows:
1 Intro 2 B.O.B.B.Y 3 Unspoken Word 4 Slow grind African 5 Airwaves 6 Love Jones 7 N.Y.C everything 8 Mantis 9 Slow grind French 10 Holocaust (silkworm) 12 Bobby Did it (Spanish Fly) 13 Handwriting on the wall 14 Kiss of a black widow 15 Slow Grind Italian 16 My lovin' is Digi 17 Domestic violence 18 Project Talk 19 Lab Drunk 20 Fuck what you think 21 Daily Routine
Rza's music is pure and simple hard Hip Hop. This is made up of some unbelievable lyrics put over some even better music. Everyone one likes to bounce along to music and this is one of the best head bopping albums around. Hip Hop fans should all have heard of this as it contains vial tracks from Wu-Tang and Hip Hop history. There is a lot of gangster talk in their songs along with violent swearing so I wouldn't recommended it to people who would take it all completely seriously.
My favourite track is number 7. NYC Everything. It has all you want from a good Hip Hop track with bouncy beats and hard raps. Rza's mix of lyrics and sounds combine to complete a track which you can happily shake your bootie to, shout along to and that leaves you some what exhilarated.
Track 2 is another great, with a very hard bass line and yet again superb lyrics, but what more do you expect from a Rap god such as Rza.
The mix of tracks together is done so well that in my opinion there is not a weak one out of all 21. They are blended seamlessly and combine hard bass lines and powerful lyrics. There are hard hitting tunes, slower more subtle friendlier hip hop but then there are the best hard and evil tracks. There is bond to be something for everyone on this album what with the combination of voice and music.
Each track is different yet easily flowing from the next. I could sit here and try to describe the in depth lyrical genius that each is song but they are all really good and I have nothing bad to say about this album whatsoever. For the people that are really sure they don't like Hip Hop or Rap I would really stay clear, if you fancy broadening your horizons, broaden this way! All Hip Hop fans should know of this album and if not get it now! 10/10 for Rza's Bobby Digital.

Album Notes
Personnel: RZA; Lisa L'Anson, Victorie Heathcole, Lorenza Calamanderi (vocals); Frank "Foxy" Niedlich, Angel Cake, Method Man, Ol' Dirty Bastard, Ghostface Killah, Holocaust, Dr. Doom, Sommers And Ndira, MSx Roxy, Ras Kass, Black Knights, Royal Fam, Jamie Clan, Force MDs, Masta Killa, Killarmy, Tekitha. Producers: RZA, King Tech, Inspectah Deck. Engineers include: RZA, Nolan "Dr. No" Moffitte, Gabe Chiesa. The Wu-Tang brand name is to hip-hop as Good Year is to tires. When the Clan is involved, you can be certain you're dealing with a quality product. RZA's long-awaited solo album is no exception. Sure, his Wu-Tang brethren pop up all over the place, and a little help from friends like Ghostface Killah, Method Man and ODB is something any hip-hop artist would be a fool to refuse. But BOBBY DIGITAL ultimately belongs to RZA alone. Dark and atmospheric, it presents a very personal world, constructed by RZA to pull the listener into a unique audio experience. Beat-heavy but not really danceable, well-produced but hardly slick, BOBBY DIGITAL is an expertly textured, occasionally unsettling journey, with the Wu-Tang sound nothing more than a jumping off point. Fans of the clan won't be disappointed, but they'll most likely be surprised.
Album Reviews
The Source (1/99, p.177) - 3.5 Mics (out of 5) - "...BOBBY DIGITAL stays within RZA's consistent vision of taking the ghetto mentality to new heights....angular loops bathed in ancient, obscure melodies and Africanesque wails..." Rolling Stone (12/10/98, p.120) - 4 (out of 5) - "...His words follow their own rhythm into a complex, hypnotic flow....He vocalizes like a shaman, magnetizing you with his chants....more accessible than WU-TANG FOREVER but full of grinding, dark, bass-drunk, anti-dance tracks..." Mojo (2/99, p.91) - "...Stuffed with great abstract riffs, musical and verbal, it manages to be both silly and heroic at the same time..." Entertainment Weekly (12/18/98, pp.79-80) - "...Even if BOBBY DIGITAL IN STEREO barely hangs together as a concept album, RZA's talent as a producer and sound tinkerer bounds to the fore..." - Rating: B The Wire (1/99, p.57) - "...a strictly 2-dimensional videogame character whose braggadocio perfectly accompanies RZA's digitally enhanced, Hardcore production skills...." CMJ (12/21/98, p.5) - "...not the rebirth of hip-hop prophesied by some fans, it does take the genre in unexpected and enterprising new directions. Forgoing heavy sampling in favor of keyboard-based soundscapes, the album boasts cleaner, more minimalist grooves than RZA's Wu-Tang work..." Mixmag (1/99, p.115) - 3 out of 5 - "...moments of genius....fantastically pugilistic 'NYC Everything'...'My Lovin Is Digi' turns an old soul record into a lusciously cinematic shag duet..."
