This movie then one i saw more than fifty to sixty times, this historic movie is based on the habit of having gladiators(actuallly the slave but brave men) to fight with the animals in larger galaries in anciant romen empire.Estimations are that there were more than 100 gladiator schools (ludi) throughout the empire. Two of the more famous are the school in Capua where Spartacus was trained and the school in Pompeii that was buried in the 79 AD eruption of Vesuvius. One of the largest schools was based in Ravenna. There were four schools in Rome: Ludus Magnus (the most important), Ludus Dacicus, Ludus Gallicus, and Ludus Matutinus (school for gladiators dealing with animals). The general who became a slave. The slave who became a gladiator. Yes, I am sure everyone out there knows the story, has seen the film, has seen the DVD and has read the reviews, still I thought I would share my pennies worth with you all! Directed by Ridley Scott (Alien, Blade Runner), Gladiator is the story of Maximus Decimus Meridius (Russell Crowe) who is the general of the Roman Empire, one who controls the respect of the entire army and the people. After a huge battle in Germania, which starts this epic, Maximus is met by Emperor Marcus Aurelious who comes to congratulate Maximus and asks him to become Caesar when the time comes. Superficious - Gladiator

Advantages: Action, Adventure and Special Effects
Disadvantages: Not much - Little bit gory

. The rest of the story marks the way of how he becomes a gladiator and seeks revenge for the killing of his family. He becomes an instant hero with the crowd and wins the heart of the mob (the roman people as mentioned in the movie). Maximus is supported by Hagen, Juba (Djimon Hounsou) and Lucilla (Connie Nielsen) in his efforts to make the vision of King Aurelius come true. Lucilla is the widowed elder sister of Commodus and always had a liking for Maximus before her marriage. The movie is very good in most of the action sequences, be it the Germania War at the start of the movie or Battle of Zoma in the newly built Colosseum and the fight sequence with the Tigris of Gaul. The movie is well balanced in both the emotional and action segments and leads to a fitting climax. The dialogues in the movie are worth mentioning and my favorite is the one ...
