Disadvantages: may sound dated to some

So whose heard of a Celtic progressive folk rock concept album? Surely I made that up? You all know that I have a fairly odd taste in music but the aforementioned category must be a figment of my imagination. Hardcore country jazz or ambient classical death metal is probably more believable. But I kid you not, whilst the later two are the products of my alcohol addled imagination, the former neatly sums up a band called Horslips and their 1976 album "The Book of Invasions." Seen by many as a return to their earlier sound, like their second album, "The Tain," it is based on stories that come from Irish mythology. The original Book of Invasions is a semi-mythical record of the subsequent races that controlled ancient Ireland. Those Weird Angelinos (This Book Will Save Your Life - A.M. Homes

Advantages: well written, funny, compelling read
Disadvantages: not a single truly likeable character; no lasting impact

This is the first book by A.M. Homes that I have read and thus I had no preconceptions of my own approaching it. The professionals' reviews uttered things like 'glass-sharp' and 'acid-etched' while the readers' ones were more along the lines of 'nice' and 'uplifting'. And Stephen King said that it might even save somebody's life. There is little doubt that "This Book Will Save Your Life" won't do any such thing, in fact it's one of those books that one enjoys a lot while reading, but which leaves no lasting impact. On the surface, it's an enjoyable story of emotional redemption, of a man re-establishing his connections with human world and his own emotions and history and thus coming back to what's defined as 'life'. Invasion of the blamonge with legs

Advantages: great harmless entertainment with a good story line
Disadvantages: the music is way too loud at times
