Boy A

Advantages: Easy read, real page turner
Disadvantages: Based on tragic events

Boy A As both a film broadcasted by Channel Four and a Book, Boy A has shocked me to the core, its shockingly realistic and naked representation of children in society is not hidden, however it amazingly portrays the other side to cruelty and violence from very young children against other children. Something that I had not considered ever wanting to understand or ever realised how deep and conflicted my opinions could become. I hope that readers can appreciate that this review is not just of a book and is also of a documentary/film and of the tragic reality that the book tells. The Book Boy A is a novel written by a British author called Jonathan Trigell and it was published in 2004. The novel tells the story of a young man released into society after being imprisoned as a very young boy, he has a new identity ...

Sing for your supper at Soprano's

Advantages: Excellent food at very reasonable prices
Disadvantages: They may rush you because they're so busy

I don't usually go to restaurants as part of a large group of people, but my visit to Soprano's in Palmerston Road, Southsea, was an exception to this rule. A colleague of ten years (mine of eight of those) was leaving to go and live with a Welsh farmer, so we had to give her a fitting send off. Soprano's was recommended to us by one of our younger colleagues, and knowing that it had won an award for best restaurant in the Portsmouth area in 2006, we were happy to go along with her choice; she made a booking several weeks in advance for thirteen of us (all women) for 7pm one Saturday evening. The superstitious among us were perhaps a little relieved that on the day only eleven attended. Soprano's is essentially an Italian restaurant offering an extensive menu of salads, risottos, pasta and pizza, as well as filled panini and focaccia ...

Review of Sopranos Restaurant, Southsea

Stuck on Christmas.

Advantages: A fun activity that will keep your child entertained for hours on end.
Disadvantages: Only suitable for the holiday season.

I frequent The Book People website on quite a regular basis as my 25 month old son is becoming a bit of a bookworm. With Christmas fast approaching it was inevitable that I was going to be purchasing a few books for my son, whilst browsing through books to buy for him I decided to have a look at the Christmas selection of books on offer. Like all toddlers my son loves stickers, so when I spotted The Christmas sticker book for just £2.99 I wasted no time in adding one to my basket. The book is a Usborne publication so I knew it would be of a good quality. The A4 sized sticker book has 24 pages with an additional 10 pages of stickers containing a stunning 800 stickers in total which will keep a toddler very busy on the lead up to Christmas. The book is quite chunky with thick glossy pages throughout; the front cover has a snowy ...
