Despite being relatively unknown in the U.K, Boys II Men are one of the biggest boy bands in the world and for that matter one of the first. But don't think Boyzone, Westlife or Five, think four men with absolutely amazing voices, great songs and the ability to move you.
After a number of albums with a more 'barber shop quartet' feel to them Boys II Men finally broken the mould and released this primarily R&B album, which went multi-platinum in the US. No longer are they the geeky looking guys in smart trousers and braces, they are the cool R&B singers kitted out in all the top fashion and being followed by thousands of young lovelies. The album name recognises that despite having the name Boys II Men the group did not really achieve this untill they made this album. In my opinion this is easily the best work they have produced.
The album starts with a couple of more upbeat tracks 'Thankyou' and 'all around the world', which showcase the bands accapella style that won them so many fans in the late 80's and early 90's. After this the mood changes and there are a number of beautifully slow songs.
Some people may be familiar with the song 'i'll make love to you', which was a hit in the UK charts in the mid 90's. This is quite possibly the best song on the album with silky smooth vocals and incredible lyrics.This song is about . . . well i'm guessing you can tell what it's about from the title. It's one of those songs that just makes you close your ayes and forget about everything else but the music. Other great songs to look out for on this album are 'On bended knee' and 'Water runs dry'. Both of these are in the same slow, close your eyes catagory as 'i'll make love to you'. The last track on the album is an accapella version of the beatles classic yesterday and i'm sure the beatles (dead and alive) would be proud of Boys II Men for their rendition. The guys make you think their accompanied by a band by using variation in their voices and working well as a quartet. Another example of their barbershop roots but this time being used to make a classic into a great R&B tune.
If you like this album you'll love the boys II Men greatest hits CD (legacy), which has now been released. Most of the better songs on this album are on the greatest hits but there are still some good tracks that are not.
