Advantages: Excellent backing tracks, competent vocals, a couple of strong pop hits Disadvantages: Not much in the way of soul, some dull tracks, all rather dated now
wiped, as so many ?Top of the Pops? episodes were prior to 1976.
The song slipped from consciousness over time however and it wasn?t until I received the first ?Jackie? compilation album a couple of years ago as a gift that I heard it again and was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed it ? despite the passing of well over 30 years.
Ever the curious sort, I sought out more of the Pearls? work and as an aficionado of the northern soul sound decided that their compilation CD ?A String of Pearls? had to be worth a punt if only to reminisce about my childhood.
The album has 24 tracks, including all singles and B-sides the girls recorded. To the best of my knowledge the Pearls never released an album in the seventies so there are no obvious ?album tracks? but there are several curiosities if you are familiar with music from the early 1970 ...
Advantages: Two outstanding peices of chamber music for an unusual combination of instruments Disadvantages: On the surface quite contrasting works, listener must be openminded
procedures, deriving new and original ideas influenced by the chamber music of old masters such as Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms and Schumann. Ligeti was influenced by the music of fellow Hungarian composer Béla Bartók, who once stated that "Every art has the right to strike its roots in the art of a previous age; it not only has the right to but it must stem from it". Both outstanding chamberworks in their own rights and certainly the two best pieces composed for this unusual combination invented by Brahms, a good recording is essential, but hard to find. There are not that many recordings in existence of these works due to the technical complexity for performers and even acclaimed recordings such as the CD by Perlman, Ashkenazy ...
Advantages: An entertaining read, Deals well with the racial issues Disadvantages: If your not a fan of Grisham you probably wont enjoy it
The next novel in my John Grisham series is one of the best books I?ve read, the chamber. He has become one of those authors that people either love or hate, personally as I?m sure you?ve been able to tell I love his work, well most of it. I can?t really say I?m a big fan of one of his latest. and although he features heavily in my current book selection, I have started to branch out a little bit.
Grisham, a former lawyer has made a very good living out of writing novels, since his debut effort a time to kill. Despite his move away from practising law he writes his books on the subject he is familiar with keeping a law theme within almost all of his works to date. His Knowledge of the criminal system obviously helps a lot in explaining exactly what he means in an easy way so that someone like me, with only basic knowledge of legal ...
