I first heard of the Bravery when watching the Friday Night Project a while back. Not the best of programs to appear on really didn't really like it myself. The one good thing to come out of watching that program though was that I heard about The Bravery. The Bravery made a name for themselves playing the small clubs around NYC.
The songwriter Sam Endicott teamed up with John Conway who synthed up the songs that Sam had written. Slowly a band was put together, until five men made up the group. Sam wrote the songs before he met up with the rest of the group.
You really can see that Sam is enjoying himself during performances and, with his striking hair, he is the image most people have of the band. John has done some excellent work to match up the synth to Sam's voice.
There are some great tunes on the album that I really enjoy. One of these is the song that I first heard, "An Honest Mistake." It kicks off with a great pumping line on the drums by Anthony Burulcich, which really gets a tempo going for the song. The synth is mixed in, and the song really gets going. The chorus is an excellent piece of work, perfectly balancing the deep tone of Sams voice with the synth.
Another great tune is "Tyrant." It starts off slowly with the synth and slowly builds up over the first minute until the song really emanates with the classic 80s sound. This is probably my favourite song on the album, i'm not sure is its been released as a single yet, but i'm sure it will do well if it is released.
When I first heard "Unconditional" and "No Breaks", I realised what an excellent album this was. "Unconditional" is such an amazing pump up song and it really shows off the great talent of the drummer, Anthony Burulcich. "No Breaks" features some good work on the guitar by Michael Zakarin, which works well with the synth.
The band has been likened to many others of late including Bloc Party, the Kaisers and The Killers. The only band I think who are appropriate are The Killers, who I enjoy just as much as these. They will also be supporting U2 when they come to Cardiff, which will be an awesome gig! So lucky to be going!
The Bravery official site has a media player, through which you can listen to "unconditional", "no brakes" an "honest mistake", so, if your still wondering if you should buy the album, go have a listen there.

Like their fellow New Yorkers The Strokes, The Bravery recycle the music of their youth ... more
and add a modern sensibility (as well as a pin-up swagger). But whereas The Strokes focussed on the guitar-rock of the Velvet Underground and Television, The Braver...

Review of Bravery, The - Bravery
Advantages: 'Honest Mistake' is okay... only because it's one step away from being a Duran Duran song Disadvantages: Empty, lifeless, boring, vapid, mediocre, insincere, dull, flimsy
